nursery ideas update

Because I'm a nerd and I really, really enjoy stuff like this, I made a little mood board for my new nursery plan. I contacted the etsy seller last night for the bedding and I'll be ordering a crib skirt, a couple fitted sheets, and two changing pad covers in the fabric swatches located on the right. I'll wait until it all comes in, but I'm thinking aqua walls with the vinyl elephants creating a border just above the crib in white. There are also built in bookshelves that cover one wall that I would love to paint tangerine, but will wait to see if that seems overwhelming or just too much. Remember, our furniture is espresso brown. Now I'm debating the three rugs at the bottom. The one on the left would be in brown, but wanted to show the pattern. What do think?

Re: nursery ideas update

  • OOoh, is the orange w/white outlined birds/flowers from a rug?? I think I saw that same rug while perusing some of the links people posted for you before. (And I think it was eeexpensive- but gorgeous!!!)
  • Yeah, it's not cheap, but my whole thing is that this nursery will probably be the ONLY new thing this kiddo will be getting since her big sister will be less than three years older than her.  I don't mind giving her a rockin' nursery.
  • *coughs* I make one of those boards every time I redecorate a room in my house, which is sickeningly often.

I LOVE aqua and orange together.  Absolutely love.  I like the rugs, I think you have to have a neutral to keep it from seeming circus-y when using bright colors like that and I really like the pattern.  It looks like a fun room, but I'm definitely not a "neutrals" or stereotypical boy/girl room kind of gal.  This is definitely right up my alley.

The elephants are super cute.  I'm trying to do the girls' rooms here at our new place and my oldest told me she *needs* elephants on her walls. :)

Yay!  Here's the etsy seller if you're interested:  http://www.etsy.com/listing/67379752/the-elephant-march-a-vinyl-wall-graphic

  • Those are so darling.  It seems nursery-like, but I wonder if with the right color scheme I can't make it more toddler-y.  Yeah, that's a technical term.  I just really like the chain of elephants.  I think the girls would go nuts.

    Thanks for the link :)

  • LOVE IT! I would go go with the neutral rug although I love the orange one...
  • Love it!!! I think I would do the brown rug though.

    Awesome ideas :)

  • Looks AWESOME! I would so go for the orange rug... which may not surprise you given the rug in Clara's room.

And as far as the built ins go, you could always paint the shelves white and the wall/back of the shelves orange in case you feel like ALL orange shelves is too much.

    like this, sort of:

  • What's the current flooring situation in the soon-to-be-nursery? Hardwoods? What tone? And, how large is the room? That might help me to visualize your space a bit better, and chime in on the rug options :)

  • Great idea, Ashley!  I'll totally keep that in mind!

Alicia, the floors are hardwood and definitely on the darker side.  I think it's probably 10 x 10.  i think...  There are also double sliding closet doors in bright white, opposite the built ins.

  • With darker hardwoods, I'd be less inclined to use the brown textured rug. Kids spend so much time on the floor, that I think it's important to bring color down there too! While I do like the concentric circles, I really like the tangerine and white patterned rug. I also tend to like having a good amount of the flooring still visible beneath/around the area rug.

But, I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do for an area rug in Shannon's room. And, won't be tackling an area rug for Kyle's room until we tear up the carpeting and have hardwoods installed (which we'll do when we're ready to transition him to a bed). But, I've got ideas circling round in my head! :)

  • I'm totally digging your nursery theme though! I don't think you can go wrong with any of what you've proposed :)
