So frustrated

Silly me totally thought I could use my FSA account to pay for my labor and delivery. The drs office makes you pay for the L&D by the time you are 6 months pregnant, so each time I go, I pay a few hundred dollars with my FSA. Come to find out, because I haven't had the baby, my FSA will not pay for it. I have to pay out of pocket, keep all my receipts, and submit a claim once the baby is born.

Well since I have already paid the dr twice with my FSA, I now have to pay the FSA carrier back. Oh but they don't accept cards at all. The only way to pay them back is to mail them a check. I'm sorry, did I just step into 1995?

Ugh, I am so annoyed right now.

Re: So frustrated

  • That is weird. I sent them the break down of charges and FSA approved it. I have everything paid except for the hospital. There is a credit on file at my doctors office. I can show you what I sent them if you think it will help.

  • Yes please do!

  • Thank stinks!  I know that my L&D and everything that is not covered by insurance will be covered by my FSA once the practice submits the bill to my insurance.   I know that they do some sort of global billing so they will submit everything after the baby is born.  If there is anything I owe at that point and do not have the funds in my FSA account to cover it then I will have to pay out of pocket.

We go to the same Dr. and they haven't told me anything about this. I haven't been paying at all... and we're planning to use our FSA to pay as well. This is all strange to me, and now I'm confused!

The only thing I've paid so far is my initial co-pay and my u/s co-pay for each one I've had (2).

Really?! I've been getting bills in the mail and I got a piece of paper that shows how much I have to pay each month and it has to be payed by the time I hit 6 months or they won't see me any more. That makes no sense!

Could it be your insurance and not the actual practice?

If Ashlee has a plan with copays it is treated differently than a deductible plan I believe. I think only deductible plans are on the universal pay program.

I guess that makes sense. You'd think working in EBD, I would know all of this. Well I gave my paper to Lindsey and she's working on it. Hopefully I can get it worked out.

Good Luck, Sikes! I was like well crap, I'm over 5 months now and haven't heard I'll be paying in full by 6... so wtf?! lol.

But yeah, I have a co-pay for my delivery as well as 1 co-pay for all Dr. Visits related to this pregnancy, and then co-pays for any u/s and extra blood work. It was scary though, the packet they give you at the beginning that outlines the cost for everything before insurance kicks in their part, like 10k or something plus the delivery... Though insurance is pricey and I haven't used it much in the past, it is definitely benefiting me now!
