Thanks for your comment about the notes/pencils thing I do for my kiddos.  It's one of the things I most look forward to.  I do it for all 30 something of my kids no matter if they are new to my class or not.  I love writing them notes and then I usually do little things of candy and write something like "Shoot for the Stars" and give them some starbursts or something silly like that.

Peppermints give their mouth something to do instead of talking :)

Re: Larissa

  • I really do love that. Teachers who give extra are few and far between, and I remember all of mine who were. Bet your kids will remember you too.

i think this is so sweet.  and, i think i read somewhere back in high school that mint makes you remember stuff better, so really, you're super-duper helping them!

    best. teacher. ever.

  • It is true about the mint.

We have smencils that smell like peppermint that our principal gets all of our kids for tests too.  I also have a secret stash of "mad about mint" scentsy that i use for testing days, lol!  I'd rub peppermint lotion on all of them too if I thought it'd help, lmao!

I will admit, I didn't think notes we were so special because I'd say 90% of us on my campus do it.  We even have "Range Rooters" where teachers make a list of their kids that need some extra rooting and then we all sign up, take a kid or two and every time they have a test we write them a little note and get them a little something (candy, pencil, lip gloss).

So, I come from a school that teachers do ANYTHING they can.  Our kids are loved and valued by us all.  We are ranked pretty high in our district and I really think it's reasons like that as to why our kids get good test scores (not that their tests really indicate intelligence).

So, I can't take all the credit but it's still one of my favorite things to do:)
