Favorite thing about where you live...

My comment in the anniversary post about how I'd love to live in the Beacon Hill or Back Bay neighborhoods of Boston, but would miss our yard, got me thinking...

What is/are your favorite thing(s) about where you live?

Re: Favorite thing about where you live...

  • I love our yard.  I love having half an acre, and not worrying about who can hear us when we sit and talk (as long as we're talking at a normal level!) on our back patio.  And I love that we can sit outside and grill basically year round (I try to avoid it in August because it gets so hot, but other than that...).

This is totally random, but I also love that I pass several fields full of longhorns on my way home from work.  I'm not one of these super proud Texans (I was raised by New Yorkers, and my whole family still lives up there), but it makes me feel very much at home.

I also love that the winter, spring, and fall are mild enough to be able to be outdoors, and that Carter will get to spend so much of his life playing outside (he'll have to count on his daddy during the summer, though!).

The people are 100x nicer in Western MA then they are in Southern CT and its a lot cheaper (with exception to the tax). They're really into recycling, compost piles, and supporting local farmers which is cool.

We have a town park within a mile of us that has weekly events, which we need to check out. And we have a super cute downtown area that I love.

  • I love living on the river, boating in the summer is my favorite thing to do. I also love my house, our back yard is the perfect gathering place for all of our friends. We have an in-ground pool so everyone likes to hang out here in the summer.

I do wish that there were more activities in the downtown area.

  • We live within walking distance to a large metropark that runs along the river.  I love walking the dog through the park, there are so many trails each day is different.

  • Our neighbourhood and house are new to us, so I'm not sure what I love yet, but I think we will really enjoy the yard.

My favourite thing about Ottawa is the Parliament Buildings.

  • I love the farmers markets and roadside fruit stands...I'm out in the country (in town but still hear horse and buggies going past frequently).  Since our town has a race track to pay a lot of expenses (in exchange for noise pollution leniency) and our county has low taxes to begin with, we pay next to nothing in taxes...

I hate that to get anywhere to shop or anything it is at minimum a 20 min drive, and that because our taxes are so low (a matter of pride for many in our county) our schools are in real trouble, to the point that a number of my coworkers are likely losing their jobs...

  • I love all the festivals and summer weekend things during the summer.  Syracuse is pretty small but thanks to SU we have a lot going on.
  • I love that even though it's turning more and more into a 'big' city every day, it still keeps the country town feel.  I love that I can see beautiful mountains every day and rolling farmland if I drive about 10 minutes north.  I also really like that everyone in this area goes to the same park on the 4th of July and goes to the annual fair.  It has a really small town feel to it even though it's not a small town anymore.  I also love all of the history that happened here and all of the cool buildings/shops/restaurants in our downtown area.  I never plan to leave Smile

  • The weather is great 3/4 of the year and allows for outdoor activities with the exception of Dec/Jan/Feb.  I love the number of trees, trails for walking/biking we have to close to the house.  I also really like the fact we have virtually any restaurant/type of food in a matter of 20 minutes from here.

  • I think my favorite part is our view.

And the neighborhood is perfect for raising a family. We have a play ground just around the corner, another one 2 blocks away and its just a family oriented place.

  • I love that our house is off my dad's farm so it's open acres all around us, and a ton of distance between our neighbors houses.  We have a huge backyard that's lined by trees and bushes on both sides so the privacy is great.  I really enjoy being out on the top deck for laying out or eating meals or just hanging out.  We grill on the lower deck as often as we can.

I appreciate having all four distinct seasons and I do like them all.

I love that we live 30 minutes from Philly, and 25 minutes from Atlantic City and 40 minutes from Ocean City.

  • I love that everything is so walkable for us.  We can walk to the bank, Starbucks, dog park, grocery store, gym, library, restaurants, etc.

I love that the strip we live off of has towns of fun bars, cute little shops, and during the day that you see families out for walks, etc.

I especially love this time of year when (hopefully soon) all of the trees start getting their leaves back.

  • My family is here and everything is familiar, but other than that, I'd pack up in move in a second if Zach came home and said he'd found a job elsewhere. I'm so ready to be out of this college town and on to better opportunities.
