Did you meet you pre-conception weight loss goals (if you had any)?
DH and I recently set a tentative TTC start date, of sometime between Sept 2011 and March 2012. Depending on two things: how his post-gradschool job search goes (graduation next month), and getting my health in order.
"Health" doesn't only mean weight. I have bipolar disorder, and can't take my meds while pregnant, so I either need to go off them temporarily or switch to another, safer med (to be discussed and planned with doctors). But I'm also significantly overweight (weight gain is a medication side effect). I'm working on it, and finally seeing success, but have about 40 pounds to go.
I think having a "deadline" date range is motivating to me. It's an added bonus to know that I want to look nice in our vacation pictures this summer.
But I'd love to hear your experiences/success stories.
Re: s/o weight loss: moms/moms-to-be
I was overweight when I met Ben. We knew we were going to get married so I immediately started to lose weight. It took two years in a couple of different spurts but I lost a little over 60lbs before our wedding.
Of course after the wedding I put back on some of it, about 15 lbs. No one could really tell but I could feel it. I tried losing it before my cousins wedding last May but it would not budge. I ended up losing 7 of those pounds. We started TTC right after that and my body would not ovulate. Since I had PCOS I could pinpoint the problem so I started doing a low glycemic index/ low carb diet. In about two months I ended up dropping 10 lbs. After Christmas I think I may have added a pound or two. It was only 3 weeks after Christmas that my body decided to finally ovulate on its own and that is when we got pregnant. Not sure if it was the diet or what, but I know that that diet worked in helping me lose weight and feel better.
I am really happy that I started on the lower end of my desired weight now that I am starting to put some back on (which makes me sad, even though I know it is for a good reason).

I had set a goal last summer to get down to about 140-145. I did reach my goal but then ended up gaining about 7 lbs just before getting pregnant. 140-145 is still high-ish for my height but I am a major apple and give my self a little cushion (pun intended) because of how difficult and seemingly impossible it is to trim up my hips/thighs/booty.
So far I have gained about 13.5 lbs during the pregnancy I will be 24 weeks tomorrow.
I really hope I can do well after having the baby, I am hoping check ins here will help.
ETA: I guess I left off how I lost weight/had success. Counting calories works best for me. I trim down to 1000-12000 a day during the week and 1500-1800 on my (cheat) weekends. For some people that number sounds insane I realize but I also slowly start counting fiber and my fruit and veggie intake. I will try to get a decent work out in 3 times a week but on those days I increase my calories as well.
Wow what an inspiration you are!!!!!
I didn't really have a weight loss goal, I just wanted to get more toned up before getting pregnant because I knew it would make things easier after having the baby etc. I had lost about 25lbs by the time we got engaged and stayed that weight until a couple of months after we were married. Unfortunately I put on about 6ish lbs here and there. My weight really fluctuated but I stayed at about 4-6lbs above my wedding weight which is a weight I was really happy with.
4-6lbs may not seem like a lot, but on my frame you can totally tell =(
For me, what worked best was doing a lot of cardio every single day, either before or after work. I really had kind of a bad diet going into it and pretty much starved myself which I don't think was the smartest thing, and I don't know that I recommend it. What I typically ate was this:
Smart Start cereal for breakfast with skim milk and coffee
Banana for mid morning snack
Lean Cuisine for lunch
Yogurt for afternoon snack
Lean Cuisine for dinner
Skinny Cow for dessert
What really helped me was learning correct portion control. That is why I went with the lean cuisine method since I grew up with ginormous portions at every meal. Ice cream was never just a scoop it was a huge bowl. So I needed to get that under control before I could trust trying to cook on my own or prepare lunches on my own.
Good luck and I know you can do it!
