How do I know if my hibiscus are dead or just dormant?

Most of the bushes and flowers in my garden have leaf sprouts or flowers. The hibiscus I planted around my mailbox are showing no sign of growth. We did have an abnormally cold winter, so how can I tell if they are done for or just late bloomers?

  • I'm not sure how to tell, but I do know that my hibiscus are the last plants that come back to life each year.  Granted, we are in different parts of the country, so that may play a role.  But, generally mine don't start growing again until June.

Depends on what type of hibiscus you planted. Some are hardy, some are tropical and not hardy at all.

  • Some types do not come back every year.  I have three plants that are supposed to come back every year and right now they look like sticks
