Recommend your ortho doc please

Hi ladies,

I've had problems with my knees for the past year due to my love of running. I saw an orthopedic doc last year....he was nice but I wasn't impressed. I'm looking to find a new doc but I have no idea who is good and my friends don't know who to recommend either. I think I've injured my knee pretty good this time and need someone soon. I know this might be a long shot but anyone have a great, personable ortho doc they could recommend? I do have insurance so if I get some recs I will look and see if they take my insurance. Thanks for any info!

Re: Recommend your ortho doc please

  • Ugh...I feel your pain.  I injured my knee also running a few years ago.   Jewett Orthopaedic in Orlando is suppose to be fabulous!  I've heard numerous good things about them.  My health plan isn't the best so Jewett was not covered (bummer) so I saw an orthopedic doc this summer at another clinic (in Volusia County).  The doctor I went too knows his stuff, but bedside manners were rough. My running days are now over:(

Let me see if I can get the name of the knee doctor for you there.

  • Oh and if you go to Jewett website, they have a listing of all the doctors there and what each doctor specializes in.
  • I'm an athletic trainer, but I live/work in Brevard so I don't know all the orthopeds in Orlando, like I do here.  However, every year I go to our state conference in Orlando and I have listened/talked/learned from Randy Schwartzberg (sp?).  He is highly regarded and respected in our field.  He used to be with Jewitt (another highly regarded facility), but I haven't heard if he's still there or if he's changed groups.  Good luck with your knee!
  • I will second Jewett.  Both of my daughters have knee and hip issues and both went to Jewett.  I also recommend seeing a podiatrist.  Proper function begins from the feet.  I never realized how true that was until my older daughter required orthotics in her shoes.  She went from walking like a sailor and having horrible knee and hip pain to walking normally with minimal pain.  Dr. Victor McNamara in Baldwin Park has been our podiatrist for over 10 years.  He did all four of my foot surgeries and has cared for my daughters into adulthood.  I cannot say enough wonderful things about him.
  • Thanks for the recs! Keep em comin! Any particular doc at Jewett that you think is especially good? I've never seen a podiatrist before. Didn't think of it actually. I used to run when I was a kid on cross country and never had problems. Was out of sports/exercising for years and decided to pick up running again. I forgot how much I loved it! If my knees keep giving me problems I'm afraid I'll have to give it up and it's the ONLY sport/type of exercise that I truly love. Thanks for the input!

  • I hear ya about running-I use to LOVE IT. Now I do a lot of walking and use my elliptical all the time.  It's not as rough on my knee as running is.
  • I recommend Celebration Ortho. I am not sure who specializes in knees. I know Dr. Homan is a sports doctor so normally that means knees. He's awesome.
