Never been here before - where do I look first?

I will admit I haven't ever lurked here but I know a lot of board's have links or something to send newb's with FAQ.  So, is there one here I can look at?

My question is regarding when to fertilize grass.  We are new to having lawn (used to live in an apartment).  We rent a house now so, we don't really want to invest a whole heck of a lot of money in the lawn but the people before us never did a thing with it.  We do have a sprinkler system (not working but the landlord is going to fix it).  The yard is full of weeds.

My dad mentioned weed and seed but when do we put it down?  Sorry, I have a lot of questions - this is new to me.

I should mention I live in Dallas, Texas area.  Our temp's are already in the 80's.

Re: Never been here before - where do I look first?

  • IMO it's tough to have an FAQ for this board, because things can really vary by region so it's hard to give consistent info.

You usually fertilize in the spring. You may able to google it, or talk to someone at a nursery and get some better info. Hopefully someone else will chime in here as well.

  • Yeah, I kind of figured that but thought I would ask anyway since I didn't bother lurking Embarrassed
