Recycling large appliances?

I need to recycle a washer, dryer & chest/deep freezer. Do recycling centers typically pay people (by weight, I guess?) Just wondering if it's worth my time & effort getting it to the center or if I should just pay someone else to haul it away for me?

If you live anywhere like I do, if you put them out on the curb the evening before garbage day, the scrappers will come by and take them in the night.  Chances are it won't be worth your effort to take it there yourself.

My craigslist is full of free offers to take your appliances away. I'm assuming it must pay something worthwhile for them. You can just call your local scrap yard and ask what their pay rate is and decide for yourself if it's worth it.

Ditto PP, I would try Craigslist or Freecycle.  You might even be able to get some money for them!  People use them for parts.  If you don't want to go through the trouble of setting up a Craiglist meet, just post on Freecycle what street corner they'll be at at what time.  I guarantee someone will snatch them up.

If you do put them outside make sure they are secure so kids can't climb inside of them.
