Names

So Brandi's post got me really thinking about names this weekend. And this pregnancy is all about thinking positive!, so we have started talking names.

We have a boy name picked out we think (Beckett), but I know this one is a girl too and we have NOTHING. I have a couple favorites but I am not sold on any of them and neither is DH. It took us a long time to come up with Emmy's name. And while I think about nicknames with names, I call Emmy by her full name when I talk to her, but I know kids like to use nicknames, so I want a nickname that I like too!

Some of my favs -

Lorelei (or Lorelai) - I would really like to use Lorelei but my mothers name is Lorraine and I just think it is too close considering we don't speak. And I wouldnt want her nickname to be Lori (that's what everyone called my mom) so if you can come up with another cute nickname (other than Rory from gilmore girls!) that would help. I think Lola would be cute but I think DH thinks its trashy.

Aislinn - DH doesnt like it

Piper - Again DH doesnt like it

Audrey - I feel this is to 'main stream' since Emersen is not your average girl name, I would like the other girl to have a name that is just as special/different.

Gabrielle(or Gabriella) but not sure I want her to be called Gaby or GG for that matter. So that one is probably out.

So if you don't mind sharing, what are some of your favorite girl names? I am trying to find something that goes well with Emersen.

DH said there are no other family names from his family that he likes that we could use and I don't like any of mine (Esther or Ruth, no thank you!) so thats out!

Thanks :)

Re: Names

  • For a girl we are doing Peyton Elizabeth

    I like:

    Allison

    Chloe

    Samatha

    Katherine

    Boy names...have no clue.

  • I really love Lorelie, but i understand your hesitation of using it. I like Piper as well and i really really really love Audrey. I don't think Audrey is too popular (at least not here) and I think it goes well with Emersen.

My favorite girl names are Eveangeline and Adelaide...I know they are strange, but they are very Louisiana.

sorry i'm not more help. I like beckett though!

  • We have both first names picked out for our future kids...girl - Riley and boy - Grayson

But I like the following names:

Annaleigh, Marley, Harper, Harley Beth, AnnaBelle, AnnaClaire

as you can see I like the name Anna....it would honor my mom, her mom, and MIL

And we are trying to incorporate Lee or Leigh into any of the names...I had a cousin that was killed when I was in 2nd grade we were very close and her name was Stephanie Leigh.

  • I'm with Tiff.  I love Audrey!  I don't think it's overly popular at all and I think it sounds great with Emersen.  That's my favorite so far.

  • Of the names you listed, I like Audrey the best.  Like the others, it's really not very popular at all, at least not where I've lived.  I've never taught an Audrey, and I don't have any friends who have used that name for daughters.  (Gabrielle or Gabriella is pretty popular, at least with the people I know.)

I tend to lean more towards "traditional" girl names (Rachel and Rebecca are two of my current favorites, though DH has said "no" to Rachel...I haven't mentioned Rebecca).  My other current favorite is Norah.

This is discussed somewhat frequently on the GP board, if you care to lurk over there.  Someone recently suggested Melina, which could go nicely with Emersen...or would it be too close to your own name?

  • i really like audrey too! I've never met an audrey and the only audrey I can even think of is audrey hepburn :)

I think it goes really well with emerson too.

Tiff, I've been loving adelaide! I have no idea where I heard it. I really liked the name 'Ada' . She was on the biggest loser last season (i think?)  And I've been bouncing 'adelaide' around in my head thinking that could be the long version of the name.

  • Love, love, love Lorelai.  My second fave would be Piper and 3rd would be Audrey.  As for a nickname for Lorelai, I have no clue, but not crazy about Lola.  Audrey is a name I haven't heard in a long time.

  • Bianka / Bianca  (call her bee).

I love the nickname Allie.  Alice, Alicia, Alexandra, Alyssa, Alexis, Alison, Aliza, Aleena, Aleesa. Aleese

    Callie

    Savannah

Some "vintage" names: Golda, Ida, Vivian, Skyler, Hazel, Eliza (Elizabeth).

Evie, Eva, Cicily, Celia, Hallie, Hadley

I do like the name Audrey though. It's a front runner along with Allie for me when we have kids :)

Hope you are able to find one you love!

  • I found an old Doc I made when we were waiting to find out if baby #2 would be a boy or girl

here are the girls names I had listed:

Adelle, Amelia, Annaleigh, Aubrey, Audrey, Libby, Lucy, Olive,  Viviane

i love adelle too! it's been in my mind lately too but that could be to all the 'adelle' music that's been popping up on my pandora :)

  • I have always loved Melina! I think it is Greek for 'honey' I also love Chloe and Kaylee but will definitely never use Kaylee (cruel considering our last name!) Like Tiff, I love me some Louisiana names: Evangaline and Clemilia ( my great grandmothers name!) are my favs there I also like Annabelle.
