How green are these?

I've been using these, but I realized I hadn't actually researched if they are green or not...I just assumed. Oops Tongue Tied

Re: How green are these?

  • I think the general consensus is that they aren't great, but they are better than straight up conventional cleaners.
  • Hmm, we haven't discussed these in a long time, but I recall some big debates back when the board started.

*Wipes cobwebs out of brain*  I could have some of the facts wrong, so feel free to chime in and correct me.

GreenWorks is made by Clorox.  Clorox doesn't have the best history of making products that our safe for the environment and I think they test on animals.  But they did make a huge donation to save endagered frogs or something which is certainly an improvement.  There are other companies that make similar product but have always followed environmental principals.

They have Design for Enviornment certification (www.epa.gov/dfe), which is life-cycle based.  The standards for this are not publicly available, but it basically means the ingredients are considered "safer" according to EPA screening.  I consider GreenSeal and EcoLogo to be stronger certifiers because they are third-party based.

I think of GreenWorks more as a transition product for people that are experimenting with the EF lifestyle.  Ultimately, it seems better to make your own products because it reduces packaging/ manufacturing/ shipping.

I'm kind of appalled that one of those containers looks like disposable wipes.

  • DH brought one of those home once. I think they smell funny.
I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns
  • I used them once a long time ago. They gave me a massive headache. IMO there are better and cheaper options out there.
