Condoms?

Sorry if maybe TMI, but what condoms do you use? Are there even earth friendly condoms out there? I saw some vegan ones advertised on the internet. I hadn't even thought about that when making to switch to going green.

Re: Condoms?

  • You should get an IUD. That is very green.

    Having kids is not green.

I think I heard that condoms are compostable, though.

  • I have no idea, but I would assume that any natural condom would be fine-lamb skin etc. I don't actually think about this-birth control is one area where I'm perfectly fine not going green.
  • I'm glad you brought this up...I've been meaning to ask.

Our local Whole Foods sells Kimono brand condoms.  I'm not sure why (is there something particularly EF about the company?).  We picked some up because I told DH I wanted hippie condoms.  Stick out tongue  They were pretty good...very thin.

IIRC, Trojans are the only (or one of the few?) brand made in the US, so if you want to go with your most "local" condom, those would be a good bet.

Here's a Go Ask Alice article about the biodegradability of condoms: http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/2311.html

And here are some Fair Trade condoms!  http://www.ethicalsuperstore.com/search/french-letter-condoms/ (UK site)

Nothing makes my tomatoes bigger than a little shot of sperm.

I said something similar once here and it was not a popular comment. Also, saying pee sticks aren't green..that will get you in big trouble.

  • Charting to avoid is a super green form of birth control.

    Yes  And LOL majorwife. :-)

One thing to be careful about with alternative material condoms is that a lot of them are not tested and proven to be as effective as latex (I looked into this a lot b/c I'm allergic to latex.) so just be careful!

Abortion as environmental policy.  That's not something I've ever heard.

It's just a dumb comment b/c the reason that kids aren't green is the same reason humans in general aren't green.  So unless there's a movement afoot for greenies to off themselves in order to lessen human impact on the environment, it's a pretty hypocritical comment.

And I agree with major wife.  I know I'm coming off being on BC for 7 or 8 years and while charting I'm still all over the place.  We use condoms still as a back up. There was a time  that I was like clock work for about 3 months and then I went crazy and they have been all over the place and I just don't trust myself! haha

    LOL

I was goofing off, but I was thinking about reliable birth control, not abortion. You know, the obvious inference. Congrats on overreacting, dumbass.

OMG. Down, girl. She recommended an IUD as a green form of BC, not abortion.

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns

Indifferent  Aussie, what post are you reading?

    Who said anything about abortions?

    I feel confused now...

And now it's not fun Sad

  • JFC y'all.

It was just where my mind went.  It was a joke.
