Coupons (clicky)

Everytime I see this previews for the new TLC show Extreme Couponing I wonder if this would actually work out. I try to be good and cut coupons, but it doesn't always happen, and when I do cut them, I forget about them.

Re: Coupons (clicky)

  • I rarely cut them, but when I do (or when mom gives 'em to me), I too often forget them.
  • That show makes me want to start doing it again! I know I'd never have the patience or the stamina to be as good as those ladies!

  • I end up forgetting too.

I saw the preview the other day, I want to watch it and get some tips and also to see how they are coming out with $160 worth of groceries and spending next to nothing!  There's gotta be some sort of a catch, huh?  For instance, I know what brand stuff I like...and I'm not gonna buy some cheap-o jar of spaghetti sauce to save a buck?!

  • I'm pretty good about using them at CVS and Walgreens - I can typically save 60-70 percent there using coupons and deals [but I only usually get beauty goods from those places, like deodorant or toothpaste].

I wish I lived in an area that had those types of stores, but I don't. We have Wal-Mart. Fun. Once we move though, we'll live near more stores that do coupon doubling and stuff...and I plan on taking full advantage. The main catch is, you can't be too picky with brands - you just buy what's on sale. Some things, I'm just brand loyal to...so not sure how well I'll do with this whole couponing thing. :P

  • I am not very good with them.  For a while, my mom was doing some crazy couponing.  She was doing mostly at CVS and Walgreens.  For Christmas last year gave everyone in the family (60+ people) a gift bag of stuff that she paid basically nothing for.  Each bag had about $15-$20 worth of stuff like body wash, lotion, razors, etc.  She hasn't been doing too much lately, but you really can save tons.

  • My sister is awesome at this.

    I suck.

I get them, and forget them.

  • Our grocery store has their own coupons that I always cut and use, but I rarely use the ones that come in the paper. To be really good at this your store has to allow double coupons, and you have to get multiple inserts so you have multiple coupons. I do buy the off brand or store brand of most products to save money though. 9 times out of 10 that is still cheaper than the name brand with a coupon.
  • I rarely see coupons for items that I want, but when I do, I cut them and forget them.

I want to be good at this and for awhile was very good at planning my shopping trip around sales but I have been slacking lately. I just do not put the time into it, although being thrifty is something I enjoy quite a bit.

  • My SIL is really good at this.  I'm getting better but I don't have the time to do it right now.  I subscribe to some blogs that help and I do get awesome deals every now and then.  Part of it is, I shop at Target and I wonder if going to 97 stores is worth the savings with gas prices....

    Beta's 11, 14, 57, 637, 2800
Sono showed no baby and teeny tiny sac. Waiting to M/C naturally.

  • It takes a huge time commitment that I'm just not willing to give. At HEB (TX chain grocery store) they have specials and coupons of their own that they put out around the store. I use those because they're already right by the things I was going to buy! Plus, there are often buy A, get B, C, D, and E free, which is awesome.

Usually, when I compare name brand with coupon price to store brand, the store brand is still cheaper, so that's the route I usually take.

  • In Canada coupons aren't such a big thing so I voted SS.  We get the odd few every now and then in the grocery store flyer but that's about it...
March 09 Siggy Challenge image Melting Snow... because it means that spring is actually on the way and it's not snowing or cold.
  • I don't cut coupons, but that's mostly because I do 95% of my shopping at places that don't take them.
