I went to my new PCP today, and they couldnt get a reading on my BP. They had to take it 6 times. It was a little high (but again nerves!). I expressed to her that we would like to TTC at some point this year. I expressed my concern about taking medications for my high blood pressure, while PG and wondered if it were possible to do so.
My Dr. said it wouldnt be a good idea for me to TTC. She said BP meds that are safe to take while PG dont works so well, especially for someone like me who would be going in with HBP to begin a PG. She said my health and a baby's health would be a serious risk, bc I would be going in to a PG already with HBP. Right now, I cant even think about TTC, and have to lose more weight and start exercising more. I go back in a month to monitor my BP again and to get some blood testing done. She said I would definitely need to make an appointment with an OB, and set up a health plan to TTC, when I do not have any more issues with the HBP.
Im a little sad, and upset I might not ever be healthy enough to TTC. What if this is something hereditary that no matter how much I lose and exercise, it wont matter ![]()
Im going to try my hardest to lose even more weight in the next 4 weeks, and exercise daily. I just needed to vent...and I might go over to the HRP board and lurk some, hoping to read others are in the same boat as I and have had a positive outcome. Anyway, sorry this was so long, just wanted to update you girls on my BP. Give me good vibes and prayers that I can get healthy asap!
Re: HBP update.
Did she give you any advice about food or anything? I am sure there is something online that is good for HBP and to lower it. Hopefully with this new doctor she will be able to figure out what is going on and work on a gameplan.
Don't give up hope on TTC I would think that your OB can work with you and figure things out. I am sure there are ladies who have gotten PG with HBP.
I hope they can figure it all out. What did she say about your BP readings at home? Were they not low when you take them at home? Maybe you can take your BP everyday at the same time (G had to take it in the morning and before bed) for the next month and show her and see what is up.
I do hope everything can be figured out and your BP lowers.
I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. Let me tell you from experience though, this could/should be a great motivator for you!
When I lost the first 50 lbs. of my 85, it was because I had just gotten engaged and wanted to be thinner for my wedding. It was a wonderful motivator, I pushed extra hard and would picture myself on my wedding day 50 lbs. lighter when it got hard.
I think that you're still unemployed, so really, use this time to your benefit. You literally have all day to exercise and cook really healthy meals for weight loss and lowering your BP. I'd look into HPB diet cookbooks, things that you should cut out, etc. I'm sure it will tell you to drink more water, cut out sodium and processed foods to start. I'm 100% sure that if you start making some small changes, it will really help.
My family has a history of diabetes, HPB, heart disease, etc. And by losing so much weight, I was able to get to a place where my PCP said I'm no longer at risk for any of those things. You can do it, you really, really can! Let your future family be your motivation, stay positive, and really educate yourself and I promise you'll succeed. We're all here for you, cheering you on!
She didnt give me any food advice, but since I have had this for a while now I know to stay away from salt. If I buy processed foods, I buy the lower sodium version. I will be stepping it up with my diet now though.
I think so too. I almost cried in the office when she told me. She really was kind of cold about it, and the whole appointment with her just felt so tense and I wasnt at ease at all. Im disappointed with my new doctor, but maybe it will get better.
The readings at home are lower, but need to be a little bit more, especially bc I am on meds. She did switch me to a different med to start today. I started taking my BP last night and will do so every day 2 times a day and keep a log. Thank you for that suggestion.
Thanks Heather
Thanks for giving me the pep talk Ashlee. I have now lost 20 lbs since the new year.
Since fresh vegetables will start to become more available in the grocery and farmers markets, I plan to eat a lot of that now. I only have soda when we go out to eat (which is rare anyway), and I never have caffeine. When I do buy deli meat, I buy the low sodium version of that, but I should probably cut that out as well. Changing my diet is something I have been working on for a while, but I need to step it up even more.
Do you know any food blogs that are good for low sodium/heart healthy meals/recipes?
Thanks again!
Oh honey I am so sorry to hear this.
We are all here for your support. I agree you should be keeping a log of your BP and next time show the doctor when you go.
