geographical difficulties

I really miss DH as I'm in Michigan and he's in New York.  In the past 4 weeks I've literally seen him 3 days when I was in NY for a wedding.  I so can't wait till I get to move back to NY.  We were hoping to close on our house in NY next week, but just found out today that we may not get to close till May 2 :-(  DH has been spending more time in NY recently because the bank keeps messing things up and we really wanted to close next week.  You'd think that after almost 4 years of only seeing DH 1/2 the month I'd be used to it, but it's been especially hard recently as it's more like 1/4 with me and 3/4 apart. I know there are people that have worse long distance relationship situations than I do, but all I can say is that it really sucks!

ETA: I'm headed to NY on Thursday though :-)

Re: geographical difficulties

  • Long distance sucks - doesn't matter how long you've done it, I didn't find I ever got used to it when I did several long distance relationships! So glad you get to see him in 2 days...  and boooooooo on the potentially later close date :(  what happened?

  • Long distance stinks, we had to do that for a while too. Hang in there and keep the next time you'll see him in your mind to get you through the rough spots :) Skype helps too!
  • The later close date is sorta of our fault.  In our original offer (accepted 2/21) we put 5/2 down as the close date, but our REA assured us it wouldn't be a problem to move that up since the house was empty (the family was selling it as their father who lived there passed away).  Once we got all of our ducks in a row (did our taxes and got a big refund, applied for mortgage and got GFE of the closing costs), which was by the first week of March we figured we could comfortably afford to close on or before 4/15 as we didn't need our 4/15 and 4/30 paychecks to have a comfortable buffer. Plus I was going to be in town 4/10 for shower I was co-hosting and then we could also spend our 6-month anniversary (4/16) in the new house, DH would have some time to work on it before we moved our stuff in at the end of the month, etc.  Well we told the bank and REA that we were aiming for a 4/15 close or even a few days sooner, and they assured us that it shouldn't be a problem.  But because of the 5/2 date on our original contract everybody's been taking their dear sweet time.  The seller hasn't even ordered the title search yet; the bank is taking forever (they also replaced the underwriter on our loan as the first one was awful and their appraiser was a total douche I might add).  The sucky part is DH stayed in NY longer than planned because of all of the bank mixups since we wanted to make sure they were resolved so we could close 4/15.  I guess if we do have to close on 5/2 we can get the uhaul 5/1, load it, drive to NY, leave it at my parents, go close, and unload everything into the garage, do the work we need to do in an empty house (refinish floors and scrape popcorn ceilings), then move stuff in.

  • I hope you get to close on your house when you want to.

And, yes, long distance relationships suck....but on the bright side, they tend to make for great sex when you do get to see each other Big Smile
