Fashionistas... Toenail polish

I bought a polish for my toes and I'm not sure if it works... I wanted a neutral, color of the nail-bed sort of tone. A pinky/peachy color. I wanted it slightly sheer. What I ended up with was not sheer and it has a more milky (read whiter) tone to it.  It's OPI's Sweet Heart.

So, can I pull it off this spring on my toes? Or should I ditch it and keep looking for something else that fits my original preference? I'm not very well versed on the rules of polish. But for some reason, my gut is saying this is more a finger color than a toe color.

Here's a pic I found on a blog. I think it pretty accurately shows the color.

Re: Fashionistas... Toenail polish

  • If there are rules for such things I'm no help since I've probably broken them. I've worn the same color on my toes fo a few years now, all year round (OPI's Bogota Blackberry). Every time I decide to branch out and expand my horizons I've regretted it and wished I had gone with my old trusty BB. Whatevs, I've never been much for rules anyway. I say just go with what you like.

  • No rules, but frankly, I'd go brighter. Tired, hidden away feet need to be splashed in color (at least a little of it) so they can run free and celebrate spring.

Edit: If only because you and others are looking at them from so far away that subtle doesn't work. Contrast does.

  • I personally like more color on my toes than fingers.  The color looks too skin toned for me.  Like I'd do a double take on your toes thinking something was wrong with them.  I'd go for a little more color but that's just me.

I'm not real big on color on MY nails in general....  (like it on other people, not me) But the "think there's something wrong with them" is what I'm afraid of... I've done a really neutral pink-ish (sheer) on my toes before and that seemed to work well, but this one is too milky white, I think. Meh. I am horrible at picking colors. I do this all the time.

  • I don't claim to be a fashionista but I love contrasting colors on my toes. Right now they are painted blue Big Smile. I don't get pedis on a regular basis but at home I change the polish after cutting my toenails so sometimes it's shades of pink, red, or copper brown or blue.

  • I do think that's too pale for toes.  Like a lot of PPs, I like to put bolder colors on my toes but prefer paler tones for my fingers on the very rare occasions I put polish on them at all.  I really like that Sweet Heart color you posted, but for fingers.

Maybe you could do something fun like glittery nude polish on your toes :)

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • i always go DARK on my toes .. since i can't go dark on my nails (imo it looks unprofessional).

although right now i'm sporting an easter eggish pink color (cover girl's iceblue pink) on them but before was a dark pink (OPI's 20 Candles on My Cake). in the spring/summer i tend to go the pinks/reds route on my toes and then in the fall/winter i tend to go w/ more darker colors ie burgundys and even black.

  • I have a pale pink like that on my toes right now...for me I like the pale color for a quick (ie, not as neat) paint job because it doesn't show the flaws like a darker color does. And to my eye some color/polish looks more "polished' than naked.

Maybe you could use a shimmer topcoat or something to make it less "blend into skin" color.

But yes, I prefer a medium/darker color on toes in general.

  • Wasn't it Jackie Kennedy who wore demure polish on her fingers, but fire-engine red on her toes?

I always go work-safe for fingers, and play-fun for toes.

I agree. That nail polish is for a manicure. Since my manicure only lasts 7 days, I prefer a lighter color so if the nail polish chips it is not as obvious as it is with darker colors.

For your toes, would a deeper brown work?

Oh and I read that it is a no no to have the same color of polish for both your nails and toes.

  • I love that color for fingers.  Toes, not so much.  It might look like you have a fungus on your nails.
  • These are my favorite toe shades:

  • Perhaps try a nude color with a hint of metallic? It'll still be in your comfort zone color-wise, but it'll still be a fun, playful hint for spring with the metallic.

Yeah, I agree. But I don't always do dark on my toes, sometimes I do glittery or metallic. But on my fingers if I do anything it's almost nude (and that color is close to my natural skin tone).
  • I like the light colors too, I agree though, skin tone may not looks so great. Try it though, can't hurt. Maybe you will be surprised. It's not really sandal weather just yet so it won't be all out in the open yet. I think it depends on your skin tone, if you have slightly olive skin or a bit of a tan it may look really cute. With my pale milky skin I would need a little more contrast.
