T&P Please - My Gramps

My grandma and I occassionally email to say hi and keep involved in each others lives.

She sent me an email Monday saying that my grandpa had had some issues breathing so they went to the ER and he was diagnosed as having a small heart attack and that he was going to get a pace maker.  Then yesterday I received an email that it turns out it was a major heart attack and that on Monday "his heart started to flutter, that is the upper part of the heart has to work hard, it beats 2 or 3 times before the bottom part lets the blood out".  Now he's getting the pacemaker at 4:30pm CT today.  My grandparents are relatively healthy and in their late 80's.  I know they time will come, but I pray it's not yet.

Also my parents and sister are in Paris right now until Sunday, and ever since my friend committed suicide 2.5 yrs ago when I was on vacation, I'm always fearful that while my family or I is on a big trip, someone at home is going to pass away. It's kind of irrational, but I can't help myself.

So please send Grandpa Z (or Ed if you prefer) your thoughts, prayers, blessing, and well wishes today! TIA

  • Will do Hannah! Hope it all goes well.

And fears like that aren't irrational - they just happen when you experience things in life. Everyone has them.

This.  I was paranoid about Christmas for the longest time as something bad happened every year right before Christmas (my grandma died xmas eve, other grandma diagnosed with terminal cancer, brother in the hospital, etc.  It wasn't until my nephew was born years later that what I called the Christmas curse was broken.)

I'll be sure to send some positive thoughts to your grandpa and your family.

  • I'm sorry to hear that Hannah.  Praying that the good Lord will protect him during this procedure and will guide the doctor's hands.  Praying for peace and encouragement for grandma to be there by his side.

  • Good, I'm glad it's not as crazy as it seems.  and thanks Megan and Ashlee for thinking of Gpa!
  • Ditto everyone. Sending thoughts and prayers that he has many more happy years left in him.

And Hannah, I know everybody has already said this, but it isn't an irrational fear and your shouldn't feel ashamed about it or let it stop you (or your family) from living life to the fullest.

I lost my grandmother the week before my finals when I was studying abroad and I had a lot of guilt over that until my whole family kept reminding me that she knew I loved her and that she was so proud of me for going to live in Italy. I'm sending good juju your way that he will have a safe procedure, his heart will get stronger and your family will get the time with him to say goodbye many years from now.

All the best T&Ps your way! And keep us posted!
