Does DH "get it"?
Last weekend DH wrote me a check and said "Whoa, so do I write this out to Hannah H___ (new/his last name) instead of Hannah ____(Maiden name)?"
And last night we were discussing something and I said, "oh did you mention me?", his response "no, why would I say something about my girlfriend, I mean fiance, husband, ugh wife". Lol! My response "I haven't been your girlfriend since August 2009 my dear!"
So here we are, almost married 6 months and it's just starting to sink in to DH that we're married.
Re: Does DH "get it"?
Chris is pretty good about referring to me as his wife, but the other day I was giving him my credit card number and he said "so the name on it is Nicole ______(maiden name)?"

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermEric is much better than I am, referring me as his wife.. I keep saying boyfriend, sometimes.... ooops! Otherwise it comes out husband as super awkward.....I guess I am still not used to it!
What I keep messing up is signing my maiden last name on my credit card with my married last name.... Then the people will verify my signature and then say this isn't right.... Then I have to proceed in a long explanation on how I just got married and I keep screwing it up... I guess I had my maiden last name for 28 years of my life and it just comes naturally....
I think it finally hit Jason a couple months ago. He actually said one night, "I can't believe we're actually married." Ughh yeah sweety, that's what that whole big party was all about lol. Now that he has gotten used to it, whenever he calls me his wife he gets this proud look on his face, it's really cute.
It took me a while to get used to using my new last name, but as of the last month or so I haven't messed up at all while writing it. He interviewed for a new job at the community college last week and told me that one of the perks if he gets the job would be that his family could take classes for free. My response, "I wish I could take classes for free... oh yeah, I'm your family now" lol it hit me pretty hard then.
I still stumble when I have to call people from work and leave a message, (I'll often give them a "this Erica Maiden...umm, Married") but for the most part, it's been a pretty smooth transition. I do still have my maiden name on my work voicemail and on my email signature, but that's because there are people that I will only hear from once per year.
I think it's been easy because we both hated the word "fiance(e)" so much that we couldn't wait to get rid of it. We mentioned that to a group of friends at a wedding a few months before ours, and everyone agreed that the word felt really weird for some reason.
Lol, I guess for me my maiden name was legally hyphenated, so to switch to Hannah H___, it's SO much easier to say that I just love it and haven't messed it up.
Jen- haha I could totally see myself signing my maiden name and having the same awkward convo!
Ashlee- that is soooo sweet (your story about DH)

I've messed up my last name both writing and saying for the first month or two, but I like to think I have a legit excuse. My maiden name and married name share the same first three letters and are both only six letters long - so when I'm writing, my pen just wants to "go" to my old name and when I say it, it's like a like pause after the first syllable lol.
The only thing that helps me is that my maiden name was said with 3 syllables and my new name is only said with 2 so I would quickly stop myself after the first syllable to think about how to finish it.
...oh. And Mike has no problem saying wife..but he did get a little fread out/sorta proud two weeks ago when I got a personal invitation at the house that said Mrs. Kearstin hislastname. He was impressed that I'm his Mrs.
Chris gets it and I think he loves it. When we first got married, I was working from home one day and he was on his way out and he left a note that said, "Bye wife - I love you!" I kept it, even though it was a post-it note.
We are basically the last of our friends to get married, so he is very used to hearing everyone else call eachother husband and wife. I think he likes being that now. BF/GF just seems so immature...I hated using those terms!
And I also had a hard time for a while saying Megan newlastname...I would constantly use my maiden name, and then explain why I was so confused in life - ha! I actually just signed my name wrong the other day for the first time. Weird that it took six months to do it wrong...seems that it should've gone the other way!

DH gets it, he is really cute when he remembers to introduce me to people and says wife...
My Dad on the other hand forgets that I'm not his last name any more-he walked in our school office and saw a note to a student with the assignment (for parents to pick up on a day they were absent) and was almost to his next bus stop before he figured out who Mrs. S was!
I teach so I still get a lot of my old name and sometimes I will say it wrong-like when I call the garage but most of the time I say my married name....
It depends what I am signing if I get my signature right
DH gets it just fine. I am the one who is still sometimes taken off guard when I hear him call me his wife. I never forget to call him my husband though, for some reason.
Though, Matti and I have legally been spouses in the eyes of the gov't since Sept 2009. So maybe that makes things a little easier.
I still say my maiden name when signing for packages, and just today he said my last name was my maiden name.
We suck lol.
