planting around palm tree?

The previous owners apparently liked palm trees, considering there are 4 randomly scattered around the house with no other kinds of landscaping. Last week I spent 3 hours "shaving" the one in the front yard and my fiance and I agree it looks WAY better than it did before and are considering keeping it there instead of tearing it out like we had previously planned.

What I'm wondering now is, how do I garden around it? What flowers or plants would look nice around it? I've always loved poppies, from California and love orange, but I don't think they will look right with the palm tree. OH! To top it off there is also a very large old rosemary bush in the front corner that I'm not sure what to do with either.

Any suggestions? I've hit a wall here.imageimage

If you don't like something, change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.
