I've tried two different finch sock feeders, but neither of them work well. The holes on one of them were too big, losing all of the seed. The other one was too tight and they couldn't get to it.
Why is there no happy medium?! What do you use?
Re: Finch feeder
I used a sock as well. It worked great until FLOCKS of sparrows fighting over the other feeder chased away every other species.
At first I had pretty little finches on my thistle sock, cardinals on my sunflower seeds, and woodpeckers on my suet; but within a month the sparrows discovered it and took over. They feed in giant noisy swarms and chase away the solitary feeding songbirds.
I no longer put out feeders, because in the city, all you get is sparrows and they are super aggressive. My MIL has feeders out in a rural location, and she gets great songbirds and NO sparrows.
