So I lied when I said that I couldn't fathom my agency shutting down. We've been getting emails all morning about this. I'm really curious to see how this plays out.
Re: Fed gov't ladies
Yeah, I really hope they get it together, employees I support will be affected and thus makes more work for me dealing with putting them on furlough.
I heard on WTOP today that some people are looking forward to "a break" and I'm thinking I would not like an unpaid break
. And one cigar shop owner said he thought his business would go up with a shut down b/c people would come into his lounge...um yeah, to spend money on cigars? I don't see that likely.

I would not like an unpaid break either!
I wouldn't mind one
Plus when this happened in the 90s all government workers eventually got paid for the time they were told to stay home.
We got an email yesterday saying if there is a shut down, under no circumstances are we to come near our buildings, regardless of whether we have experiments with animals or not. If we are even caught using government email remotely we could get thrown in prison
I haven't been able to do anything all week because I can't run any of my sequencing machines. They take like 6 days to run and I would HAVE to come in to do something in the middle. So yeah, I basically can't do anything...
This is crazy. They threatened to shut us down last year (State University) when they could not pass our education budget. Luckily, they figured it out.
I don't know much about this shut down though. What can't they figure out? Something I heard was something about military budget? Maybe not. Either way, they need to agree on something.
Yep, we have to take laptops, blackberries, everything from employees who are affected. It's only going to be our employees who work onsite at gov't facilities.
And, if it were guaranteed that I'd be paid back pay then I'd be okay with a break.
This.
It's not looking good ladies... "Reid on shutdown: It looks like it is headed in that direction" Article
we have to come in and shut everything down, sign some paperwork and leave.
I was told to just hang out for the rest of the day and to sign up for unemployment if there is a shut down, just on principal.
