Hi all:) I'm trying to help my sister get her makeup business off the ground. I figure the first thing she needs is a website so people can find her and see her portfolio.
I have a general idea of where to start, but I don't know who I should use for hosting or what to do after that point. One of my friends said I should be able to use a template rather than writing code myself (which I don't know how to do!) since the site doesn't need to be overly complicated.
Has anyone done this before?!
As an example, we're going for this basic idea...a site where she can list her experience, portfolio and contact info but that looks nice enough that someone would want to hire her (not like a homemade-looking site).

Should I just throw in the towel on this now? Am I in over my head?
Re: Creating a website - help?
I would look at using Weebly. You can use (and customize) a template and there's no coding involved. Plus it's really easy to use.
If she wants to wait until about July/August, I could probably whip up a custom site for her using my newly aquired college skills
I'll need all the practice I can get!
I thought about Weebly, but I don't know if that would look professional enough? Hmmm.
I might take you up on that! I wouldn't mind doing it myself, but I just wonder if I spend all this time and effort, is it going to look nice, or like crap? Lol. The only thing is, I think she'd like to get it started sooner...although, it might very well take me 3-4 months to do it myself! Ha!

Ok, maybe I will play around with Weebly to start. At least that sounds less complicated than my other options! Thanks Michelle! If we've made no progress by the end of the summer, we might have to hire you!

If you want, I could help you set up a weebly site.
I'd just need you to email me the info and I could do the set up. I could work on it this weekend. That could act as a temporary site, then once I get going with my classes I could make something better and more custom.
Ok...first I have to get her to send me all of her pictures - as of last night she was still "looking" for them. I'll keep in touch with you and let you know when I have all the material from her! Thanks soooo much!

Actually I don't think I have any of your email addresses....you tell me which one is the best to use and I'll do that:)

Awesome, thanks again!!!

I know I'm late to this, but my husband is in the process of using register.com to create a website for his business. It does cost some money, but there are different packages to choose from. It is cool because it has lots of templates that you can choose from, and it is really user friendly to upload pictures and text, etc.
But, I'm not that knowledgeable about Weebly, so maybe it doesn't offer that much more.
Just thought I would throw it out there. That is nice of you to help!
Thanks! I will check out this website too!
