Regular Liars

By that I mean people that lie on a very regular basis.

I am curious to know if you guys have any of these people in your lives, and what kinds of things will they lie about.

I have two a sister and MIL. It is so incredibly weird and even uncomfortable at times because the lies they tell are sometimes very obvious, make no sense or they actually get 'called out on'.

Example: MIL was telling us about her recent weight loss at Christmas time and said when she was at the Dr's she made the Dr have her use two other scales before she beleived him. FIL jumps in to say that he has only ever seen one scale at that Dr, and what is she talking about (he totally called her out it was pretty funny). She went on to say it was in a different exam room. FIL continues saying he has been there so much that he knows they aren't in the exam rooms, finally she tells us it was in a different part of the office that no one has ever seen.

My sister's lies tend to be more hurtful than MIL. I am getting really tired of them and am on the verge of cutting her out of our lives drastically. She is at the point that she seems to truly believe her own lies. It seems like a sickness.

Re: Regular Liars

  • Glad your FIL can call her out on that one! That's just stupid! How frustrating to always have someone lying.

That's very sad about your sister, especially with a new niece about to arrive for her, it would be sad for her to miss out on that. (Not at all saying you shouldn't cut her out but saying that she should get with it).

My SIL is a bit of a regular liar, and it's always dumb stuff and we know pretty much not to believe anything she says. I take it all with a grain of salt and try to avoid thinking about her or dealing with her.

Thanks!! It is sucky (nice adjective right?)

I meant this to be almost light hearted because they remind me of story 'toppers'. I use to work with someone that lied like this. He got caught once becaus the lie he told was actually from the movie Liar Liar, ironic huh? It was pretty funny.

  • My grandmother is a liar and the lies tend to suit her needs and opinion. Like she knew someone who had a daughter who was in the exact same situation as me (ex. lived in Atlanta and couldn't find a job as an interior designer so she worked as a nanny). I mean they are so close that it is obvious she is lying. Then she tells the end results of the situation so that it is what she thinks I should do. It is so annoying and it is pretty much everytime I see her, which was yesterday on this visit.

Oh that is a great example.

Liars also like to quote 'they' a lot. Like 'they say you shouldn't do that". Ugh I will challenge my sister on that stuff sometimes.

    Okay, that's too funny!

That story topper skit on Saturday Night Live (which I haven't seen since C was born) cracks me UP!

omg Whitney, that is so annoying! That would drive me up the wall, I'd be like, 'oh is her name Bhritney?" and Pooks your comment is so true!

Summer I looove that skit, we call her our sister. Heeehee

The guy I worked with was telling us about a friend of his who was sued when a burglar fell through a skylight and cut himself on a cutting board. Totally a scene from Liar Liar, we called him out on it in the middle of the story and he made up some crazy ending. Sooo dang funny.

  • I always say my MIL "tells stories" or exaggerates things. For example, FIL bought her this ring for V-Day. She says to me it was $5000 but then twenty minutes later she was saying her pawn shop guy sold it for $1200 to her, so we really never know. Basically if we want to know the truth we ask FIL. She is not malicious in any way so we usually laugh about it.

  • Yes!!!! Goodness, I really want to pull my hair out around this one girl. When I got engaged, she all of a sudden got engaged, too. She wore her "grandmother's ring" (which ws probably a lie, too) and then one day I overheard her telling a customer that her "fiance" spent $10,000 to custom order that ring. Riiight. She has been telling people for years that she's pregnant. She finally really got engaged  (I met her fiance) and then broke it off "for a doctor" and they were getting married a month after they met. And she's totally pregnant. Except not really. It's not just that stuff, it's little things. When she worked at the restaurant with me, she would introduce herself as "Bridgett" to some of the guests...that's not her name. Either she's a constant liar, bipolar, or completely BSC. I haven't figured out which yet...

  • There was this one girl I used to work with too that lied about everything. She said she only had half a liver...the liver regenerates. She also said her name was really Coleen with the long O sound even though her name is Colleen. Any ailment this one girl had she had too. She left my school about four years ago and we still mention her once in awhile, actually we did today.

    This made me LOL!!!!

  • Omg, yes! I know a couple of people who exaggerate quite a bit. But the worst experience I've ever had was with a coworker would twist every.little.thing. to make herself sound better an me sound worse. Like if I said, "Let me look for such and such," she'd tell the story as "Em lost such and such".
