As soon as read that the center of the quake was offshore I thought "Oh No". Not that it isn't sucky/scary as it is anyway.

That's awful news. Those poor people! Barely any time to recover and think about rebuilding let alone start too. One of the guys on my MBA team was saying that his 7yr old daughter is having a really hard time dealing with it- like she's almost internalizing it as something that happened to them. He's helping her coordinate a fund drive through her girl scout troop to donate to the red cross.

I really hope the Tsunami warning ends up just being a precaution.  It is so horrible for those people.  I can't imagine the fear many of them must have right now after living through such a tragedy.  The mental tolls alone on the survivors must be awful.

They have had a lot of huge aftershocks since the initial earthquake. This link says they are at 922 now. They call them aftershocks, but look at the magnitude of those things, in my opinion the are full blown earthquakes! http://www.japanquakemap.com/

DH's aunt is DoD there and is consider essential since she is a teacher and Japan has not closed their schools. She sends updates all the time just so the family knows that they are ok. Her base was told to evacuate and then they said no you can't leave. Then they changed to, if you enlisted in Japan you could leave, if you were brought over from state side you had to stay. How insane is that?

Seriously in one article people were really pissed because they weren't allowed to leave and get their children and infants out of harms way. The government/ our government seriously told them to find someone getting on a plane and ship their kids back to family in the US. Seriously, find a complete stranger and send your kids with them. Are you kidding me?
