I have been such a big ball of emotions for the last 48 hours! I HATE being full of mixed emotions and am actually looking forward to tomorrow night when there is an answer about the budget situation one way or another. Just had to get that off my chest. Thanks for listening. :-)
Re: big ball of emotions
I've been thinking of you Jen. I can't even imagine what it is like for federal employees right now. There is nothing worse than LIMBO!
This! My mom went through a shutdown like this when I was younger and she worked for HUD. Really wish everyone would get their act together!

I was just going to post a question about this on FB.
I would like to think that because you're so valuable and talented, they've been promising you projects that are so important that there is no way budget cuts would keep those projects from moving forward.
That's the basis for the juju I'm sending your way.
Keep us up to date!
Yeah, it would be nice to know what's happening. DH said they still don't have an official list of essential/non-essential but we're 99.8% sure he's non-essential. If the budget doesn't get passed, he'll go in for 4 hours on Monday to tie up loose ends and then come home and wait it out. We have plenty of savings to get us through but going without 95% of our income (I earn peanuts at my part-time job) is going to suck anyway because I'd much rather use the savings for our 5th anniversary vacation or towards my next new car than regular living expenses.
Thank you ladies. Your concern means so much. :-)
Mainely - I've been wondering if your husband would be essential. I'm sorry you'll be dipping into savings. That's what we'll be doing too. So many people I know rely on federal salaries for all of their household income. Hopefully we won't be without for too long.
It's been a crazy week at work with sadness and anxiety running high. But my coworkers continue to be their awesome selves and there is definitely a feeling of we're in it together. It could be worse - I just don't deal well with this level of uncertainty! We recently received our memos on how to shut down, if necessary, which adds a smidge of the certainty I need and has me feeling a little less anxious.
