s/o diapers

Hey mamas,

I'm just curious what you pay on average per month for diapers. I wanted to CD to save money, but I buy from the same place and they have a rewards club that tallies up how much you've spent. I stare at the $$ and wonder if I'm actually saving money.

It's not like I can do anything about it at this point, but I was thinking about buying a few more CDs and I can't justify it until I break even with what it could have cost us to go with disposables.

Current total is $700 Tongue Tied -- I buy the detergent from this place too, so that's all costs except any added electricity (we don't pay for water b/c we rent)

Re: s/o diapers

  • My best guess is that we go through two boxes of 82 a month and they are about $15 a box so about $30 a month. We used Pampers until he went to size 3 so we probably spent more earlier in his life.

  • I'm still new at this, but we've gone through two 108 ct boxes of Pampers at $40 a pop.  Amelia is 5 weeks old.  But I know we won't go through as many diapers a day as we do now.

We're planning on CDing once she can fit in the Bumgenius CDs.

  • I just bought two cases of pampers (160/case) and spent $80. That will last us two months with sending them in to daycare as well. So $480 a year on regular diapers. I get the nighttime diapers that are absorb more, cost $30 and will last us 2 months as well.  So another $180.

hang in there! we used to go through like a pack of diapers and 5 outfit changes a day! LOL

ok, i checked my last amazon receipt.  my last order wasn't the 200 count, it was 176 and between my amazon mom subscribe & save (which you get 30% off), my amazon prime (so, next day free shipping) (both are completely free), and my amazon coupon from my Parents magazine, i spent $20.44

  • OK, well, hopefully I'll never break even with crows' deals -- that's $20/month? -- b/c Jacob would need to be in diapers until he's 3. He might be, but I'm hoping not.

Sounds like we're getting close, though -- maybe I'll buy some more in 3 months. I love those new diapers!

Mel, the first 5 weeks doesn't count ;)  It'll get much better. Wait till you put her little bum in cloth for the first time: It's a great feeling! We use BGs too.

  • $700 a month!? Wow I couldn't imagine. We use and have always used Pampers Swaddlers. We're kind of in a special snowflake situation because we get to buy our diapers through a hospital. Up until size 2 we only payed $17 for a box of 250. The hospital doesn't carry size 2s so we've had to buy them at the store $23/box of 82(I think) and we go through 2 boxes a month.

When she moves up to size 3 (hopefully soon) We can continue to buy from the hospital. THey'll be $23 for a box of 250.

  • We used pampers until she was about 15 months and it was about $60.00 a month. Now, I have figured out that the target brand is very similar to the pampers (IMO) and we are spending about $40.00 a month.

  • I have been thinking about switching to the target brand, but I'm going to check out Amazon first.

make sure you join the subscribe and save. you save 30%. you can cancel it anytime if you don't want them to automatically send you them. they send you an email before they ship them out in case you need a different size or aren't ready.

    LOL! No.

That's what we've spent in the past 13 months.

the last time i bought diapers was feb 25th. that was a case of 128.  i haven't even opened this new case yet. i will be later on tonight.  it's tough to say how many i use per se since i give part of the case to my mom since she watches her mon, wed & fri.

however, since we STTN we no longer change any diapers between 6:30 pm-7 am.  and we also don't use overnights because she hasn't needed them.  now that she doesn't wake up to eat anymore, she doesn't go that much throughout the night. and she has NEVER pooped during the night. she saves that for right when she wakes up and i have already changed her diaper :)

  • Crows, it was strange, we never used overnight diapers until about 10 months - I don't know what changed exactly but all of a sudden his jammies were soaked in the mornings :(

yeah i heard that. my mom bought me a pack when she first started STTN but after i used 1, i stopped and decided to save them.  i don't know. her diapers now say they hold up to 12 hrs and so far that seems about right.

i also stopped using sheet protectors since nothing was happening to them. LOL i only now have the mattress protector on.

  • I started to use the overnight ones when Xander was about 6 months. He would still wake up in the middle of the night for a feeding and if we didn't change his diaper he would go right back to sleep. I must say I love the overnight diapers for long car trips as well.
