Re: recommend a shuttle to Dulles

  • I live on the opposite side of the planet (or metro area) from Herndon but travel frequently to all three airports and use SuperShuttle. Since you're closer to Dulles, you shouldn't have to ride around too long picking up other passengers.

It's easy to book online and change reservations, etc. and fairly cheap. There's probably a best option, but SuperShuttle is reliable and easy and I'm a bit lazy so have always gone with it.

  • Is this for a group, or saving money reasons?  When I lived in Herndon I always took a Washington Flyer cab, and it was usually under $30.

We're flying to Paris tomorrow for two weeks.  It's me, Dh, DS and our bags.  Thought a shuttle might be a better option.

  • If it's a shuttle, won't it be full of other people and their bags?  I know with Washington Flyer, when you call to schedule the pickup, they'll ask how many people and bags.  You can request a van/SUV.

  • I'd do a cab.  Flying internationally is not the time to save $ for the sake of timeliness. Esp. since you're close enough that it isn't too expensive to cab it.  I've heard too many horror stories about the shuttle-- either having to be picked up way early, or it getting there late, or them losing reservations.  With a cab you have so much more control.  It costs me $50-60 from Alexandria (Van Dorn), so Herndon would be a better amount obviously.
  • Thanks for the advice.  I've never taken a shuttle here.  We've always cabbed it.  I had really positive experiences with shuttles in other cities.

This wasn't about saving $5.  My concern was that all of us and our stuff might not fit in a regular cab.
