Re: Spring Photo Mini Sessions with baby chicks - ICAN Fundraiser
Right, the purpose of ICAN is all those things: to raise awareness of the c-section rate in the United States, which is nearly 33% and far and above that of most other developed nations; to educate people on the risks of c-sections, which, as a scientist, you're probably well aware of, but many people are not; to combat the growing legislation against VBACs (right now, Floridian women are, by law, blocked from having a VBAC in a birth center under any circumstance and are only allowed to VBAC with a midwife at home if they've already had a VBAC in a hospital... so, on their third or more child); and to offer support to women who are still processing the emotional, mental, and physical toll of their unexpected c-sections, which are not always acknowledged by their families or friends.
Personally, only one person, my sister in law, asked how I was dealing with it, because she had one also, and we briefly discussed it. Nobody in my family has ever asked me what it was like or if I was ok with how it happened, because they just assume that since Michael was born safely, I'm fine. And I am grateful for that, certainly. But I'm not fine.
huh, that's interesting. I guess I never thought about a lot of that. Thanks, DP!
