eastern Long Island

Anyone out east? My DH and I just bought our first house in Rocky Point a few months ago.

Re: eastern Long Island

  • DH and I just bought our first home in Selden and are still settling in with our 2 1/2 year old son Aaron :) Congrats on becoming homeowners! Such an exciting and stressful time all at once :)

    Congrats again!

  • I rent in East Moriches. Looking to buy somewhere in your area though. How do you like it??
  • We LOVE LOVE LOVE our neighborhood.  Such a great combination of small town / quaint north shore charm.  Example: All of my neighbors were outside on our front lawns on Monday.  BBQ'S going, kids riding bikes, men having a beer and hanging out together while the women laughing and chatting it up.  FOR HOURS!!!  Where does that happen on Long Island anymore?  People walking their dogs and moms pushing strollers every day. On average, the homes and properties are a bit smaller but almost all are kept up really well.  Word of advice:  head toward the water.  There is a small area near King/Prince street that is made up of mostly rentals and you can tell.  But, the school district is EXCELLENT an their is soo much community pride.  My husband and I both grew up in Port Jeff/ setauket and wanted that "north shore" feel.  But, we were priced out of those two areas because I wanted to be able to stay home after we have kids.  So, we needed to find something a bit more affordable.  Rocky Point is very up and coming and so many young couples are moving in.  Definitely check it out.  But do yourself a favor and look at the newer construction homes.  Our home is 16 years old and that is much newer than some of the homes in the area.  It will save you some headaches in the future.  Good luck!
