How much to water....

So we just got landscaping and I'm not sure how and when to water. Most of the plants are evergreens with a couple of trees and four small flowers. I've been watering around 6pm the sun is down but it's not dark yet. Early morning watering is almost impossible as we leave for work at 6:30 am. At first I was just using the hose and letting the water run on the roots, then I changed to the rainbow sprinkler that you attach to the hose. Just not sure what to do...Thanks!

Here's a pic of the drawing...

Re: How much to water....

  • Buy a rain gauge and stick it outside next to one of your plants.  A good general rule is 1" of water a week is needed.  If you don't get enough rain this time of year to meet that then supplement with watering.  By having the rain gauge next to one of the plants you can easily see how much water you're giving them.  Baby the shrubs for the first year until they are established but don't over water them.  No need to water them ever night one good soak (to meet that 1" mark) per week is fine.  This will encourage nice deep root systems and will make them more drought resistant in the future.
