Our neighbor's son (I think he's 20?) is a piece of crap. Let's call him Z. Does nothing around the house, has loud parties w/ his loser friends, can't hold a job, got arrested for drugs last year and just in general is a scumbag.
He has 2 dogs, one he's had since we moved in 2 yrs ago and a new one that we've seen around recently. No idea how old they are.
This morning, I heard high pitch screaming of my neighbor, and the yelping/squealing of dogs. My neighbor was hysterical, so I went out and offered to call 911. Apparently, Z was arrested (again!) and is in jail since he can't post bail, she is watching the dogs. She went out to the garage apartment where the dogs stay to feed them. The newer one kept eating out of the older one's bowl so she tried to separate them so they could eat. This prompted one of the dogs to attack the other and an all out brawl happened. Fearful for her safety, neighbor left the apartment and called animal control.
When AC arrived, June and I went back in the house (I didn't want her to get all excited if/when the dogs came out). I watched in horror from our deck as AC went in and used a guide to bring out one of the dogs... who was so covered in blood I couldn't tell which one it was. Put the dog in the van and left about 10 min later. As far as I could tell, one of the dogs was still in the apartment.
After talking to CB, we agreed that I should call the city animal control and try and figure out the situation. Not out of noisy-ness, rather, we were concerned about our safety and June's. These dogs are much larger and more powerful than June. The older one has jumped over our fence a few times and played with June, and while their interactions have always been pleasant, the fact that the dog was involved in such a vicious fight made us nervous if/when she were to try and play w/ June again. At this point, we had no idea who initiated the fight. The AC warden told me that the aggressive dog (the newer one) was "taken care of" and won't be coming back to the house. The other dog (the older one) was still at the house, recovering from its injuries. He couldn't disclose much, but said that changes would be taking place next door to prevent this from happening again.
I have tears in my eyes as I'm writing this. I'm sure that dog was euthanized because scumbag Z didn't train it properly. And the other dog... who knows what's going to happen to it. This is the 4th time AC has been called on her for various reasons, all of which could have been prevented had Z trained and taken care of her properly.
I wish it were possible for people, not animals, to be "take care of" in situations like this ![]()
