disclaimer: I'm not well educated on either topic, but...
how can major entities like the government and NFL not come to agreements on budget and salaries and just temporarily give up? What does that say about America? If it's not working, just take a break?
Re: I just don't get it...
IMO, the current budget crisis in the Federal government is because (many) politicians are working for their re-election and not in their actual constituents' best interest. They're attempting to do anything they can to placate their base, so that when their term is up they won't look like the bad guy. "See, I tried to pull the funding for those abortion clinics/NPR/Fat cats!" People are so willing to believe whatever soundbite they hear that they don't do the actual research. And many times they end up voting against their own self interest.
The NFL situation comes down to greed, but I don't know enough about it. I know the owners want the number of games per year to increase, but not the amount of pay for football players, but I'm sure it's more convoluted than that.
