It may be a mistake, but...

DH is on the excepted list!  That means he'll be working if there is a government shutdown and he will eventually get paid.

Apparently whoever made up the list of essential/non-essential employees was not up to date on DH's job change a month ago -- he's the only one in his branch to be excepted but everyone on his old project is excepted.  Obviously they think he still works in his old job.  Of course they could still furlough him at any time, but I'm not going to look this gift horse in the mouth.

  • That's gotta be a relief, eh? Here's to a slow bureaucracy-- it's like one of those "Community Chest/Bank Error in your favour" cards from Monopoly.

I hope those dopes just get their act together and pass a budget.

  • That's cool. I spoke with a friend who works for the EPA, and he said some coworkers were there at the last government shutdown, and everyone eventually got paid because the paperwork and time it cost NOT to pay people was too expensive.

The furloughed employees did get paid after the last shutdown but there is no guarantee that it would happen this time.

Exactly.  It is a very, very different political environment than last time around.  I don't know anyone who believes non-essentials will be paid if a shutdown happens.  I'm glad YH was deemed essential!  If we're really lucky, everything will be resolved by Monday.  ;-)
