Any other time, if you're going to a baseball game in Detroit...you're fine leaving Toledo with as little as two hours or left before game time. If you're going to the home opener...do not leave Toledo at 12:30 for a 3:05 game! It took us about an hour to find parking.
A home opener in Detroit is not suitable for pregnant chicks or kids. It really truly is just one big party.
Plan well ahead for bathroom breaks when going to the home opener - and this applies to both sexes. By the time the game starts, many people have been partying since early that morning. I think we know how that works...especially after the seal has been broken!
Wear layers (I already planned for that one)...the day started out a bit drizzly and chilly but the sun blasted out of nowhere a few times requiring the shedding of a layer or two for both of us. Only for the sun to disappear and the layer would then be reapplied.
Re: lessons learned today
I was there too. Parking this year was rediculous. I have gone many times before and never had a problem finding a spot. Last year we even got there less than a half hour before game time (we were running a little late) and had no problem at all finding a spot. This year however, we left my parents at about 1245 and once we got up there and had looked for a spot for about a half hour FI dropped us off at the door and he searched and finally found a garage about 15min later. But all in all it was still fun. It is one of my favorite baseball days of the year
