Taylor's ears

I cannot figure it out.  We took her to the pediatrician today because all weekend she has been putting her hands/arms over her ears like things are too loud.  Thought it was an ear infection (even though she had no temp and was acting completely normal, better to rule it out then let it fester).

So, question is, if it's not an ear infection, why would she keep doing this?  MD said perfect looking ears, not any fluid at all.

I'd don't know...she's your kid!  Stick out tongue

Helen does stuff all the time that makes no sense to us.  At least now she's old enough for us to ask her shy she's doing it.

Maybe she's just experimenting with the sound - she probably just figured out that if she puts her hands over her ears things get quieter, and it's a neat trick.  Marcus went through a brief stint of doing that, and that's what I figured it was.  Sometimes when we're sitting reading to him, he'll cover the ear nearest my mouth - I think I read too loudly to him!

  • I agree with Megan, could just be her thing of the week. Glad to hear it isn't an ear infection though :)
  • Maybe she had fluid and everything sounded garbled and now the fluid is gone, things sound loud?  Or ears may be a fun toy..

  • I have no answer, but I find it interesting because in our pre-appointment questionnaire at Owen's 2-year appt. today, one of the questions asked if he did exactly this.  He doesn't, so I glossed over it...but I wonder why they asked?

About a year ago I had a badly blocked ear.  I went about a week of trying home remedies before heading into the doctor's to get it flushed out (I have a wicked ear thing and was terrified of the dr. sticking anything in there).  After he flushed it out, things sounded REALLY loud!  And it was so annoying.  My husband even said I was flinching while he talked.   It was a day or two before I got used to things sounding normal again.
