New here...landscaping question.

Hey guys!  I'm looking for some advice and I hope someone might be able to help me.  My front flower beds get only a smidge of sun in the late afternoon/almost evening.  I want to plant some large shrubs/bushes that have some sort of color, but everything I've looked at requires a lot of sun.  Anyone have any suggestions?

  • I have azaleas and they dont get a lot of sun, neither does my rhododendron and mine is really big!  It takes up the entire corner of my house
  • We get very little sun in the front of our house too and we have a mix of

    azaleas, rhododendron and otto luykens...

  • Without knowing what zone you are in...here are some possible options:

Hydrangeas, rhods, azaleas, yews, arborvitae, Canadian hemlock, some types of dogwood, boxwood, Korean fir, sawara cypress, and daphnes.

  • I agree with azaleas.  They don't flower as well with low sun, but they will still flower and are otherwise evergreen so no bare branches in winter.

  • Sorry!  I believe I'm Zone 7, Eastern Tennessee?  I'm not 100% positive though.  Thanks for all of the suggestions!

  • I would definitely suggest hydrangeas or (as someone who has mostly sunny areas on my property and has always wanted a hydrangea....).  :)   Maybe you could try alstroemeria, if it gets at least some sun?
