We've been bringing Abe over to MIL and FILs every weekend so that they can see how we interact with him and so that he can get used to being there.
I asked Seth if I could have some alone time yesterday and he said he would take Abe over there. Well. They came back 30 minutes later.
Apparently Seth was holding Abe and sitting next to FIL on the couch watching the Celtics. FIL jumped up yelling and clapping when some guy got a three. And of course that scared the sh!t out of my kid. Seth brought him upstairs to calm him but as soon as they came down and Abe saw FIL...he melted down. Seth said he had never seen Abe freak out like that. He said he thought it was Abe's first "I need my mommy" moment. I'm glad Seth trusted his instinct and came home. Abe was still trying to catch his breath when he got home. But...snuggles and some boob do wonders.
I'm just so disappointed. I certainly can't leave him there and now I don't feel confident in him even going over there!
Re: f/u MIL and FIL
Oh man. I'm so sorry it's not getting better with the ILs
Poor Abe, sounds like he was really freaked out - good call on Seth's part for bringing him home for Mommy time.
*hugs*

Oh Brianne, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time with them...Its never easy to not trust family. I wish I had an easy answer but I'm in the same boat with my parents...Josh is almost 2 and still doesn't want to be left alone with them....I think Josh's issues is partly my fault since he doesn't seem them a ton but they still want me to leave him with them overnight and I said not until he can tell me he wants to stay with you...They live to far away if something were to happen.
Stand your ground and listen to your mommy instincts we have them for a reason!
Hugs!!
I agree. Great job Seth!
Man, that sucks. In FIL's defense, that's an easy mistake to make if you're not around kids all the time (unlike MIL's mistakes which are just nuts), but it still sucks and is really frustrating.
Kudos to Seth for taking care of his kiddo.
I'm also bummed, though, that your alone time got blown.
