Soooo, what's up, hookers?

I'll attempt to "kick start" this place.  Everyone needs to come give an update!

N turned one and her party was flipping awesome.  She has started walking all over the place which is so cute and yet makes me a little sad.  She's turning into this little person right before my eyes!  She's not "officially" talking but she babbles in her own language a lot.

I'm still in school and SO GLAD the semester is winding down.  Only one month left!  Part of a project has me volunteering at a place that I would LOVE to work at someday.  And by "someday" I mean next May when I finish up.  ::fingers crossed::

MrShoe is working his assets off so we don't see much of each other anymore.  So it goes.  We started showering together at night after N goes to bed in an attempt to have 15 minutes of adult conversation.  It works.

Since this spring has been so insane, I'm taking every Friday off this summer to spend more time with N.  And I am SO EXCITED about it.  I looked up swimming lessons at the Y last night for us to take together.

That's the latest at the Shoe household.  What's up with you fine ladies?

  • We're crazy busy in this neck of the woods.

I started a tiny tunes choir at church which doesn't take up any measurable additional time, since we rehearse during the service, but I'm enjoying it. What is taking up my time are my kid and the one I watch. I think I got amnesia when I agreed to do this. I have K for 50 hours a week, 7am-5pm.  For the most part she is a good baby, but she has so fussiness, she just starts screaming when she needs or wants something. That's really frustrating. I did get her to hold her bottle for the first time today, once she starts doing that I think she'll be a lot happier.

Brooks is 9 months old tomorrow. I have NO idea when this happened. He's cruising everywhere and gets so frustrated when he can't go any further.  He's not a fan of sitting down either, he likes to be on the move. He's really adventurous and he'll eat almost anything we give him. I've always enjoyed him, but he's getting to be so much fun. I just signed him up for swim lessons today that John will take him to which I think will be good father son time.

Speaking of John he is assisting on a Broadway and off-Broadway show this summer!!!! Bonnie and Clyde will be opening in November and John is the assistant designer. I can't remember the name of the other show. I was hoping that we would get to move to NYC for a month this summer, but looks like they will be working in John's studio at school. Still I'm sure that there will NEED to be some trips for one reason or another.

And that's it for this singing household.

  • Around 9/10 months is when N got really fun too.  Of course it's also when she started sleeping more so that probably isn't a coincidence.

  • Not too much new here.  The hubs is working his hiney off so we don't see too much of him.  Elise is growing like a weed, she should be getting her driver's license next week.  I kid, I kid.  Seems like it though, going by too quickly!

She's also in the extremely terrible twos.  Like WHOA, kinda bad.  But she is really smart (says the partial mom).

We're just doing lots of yard work lately, hoping to do some house projects soon and it looks like in May, I might be the new President of our local MOMs club chapter.  I'm a little nervous about that because I've always been kind of a wallflower, but they all asked me to (we have a new board every year) and I think it's time to get out of my comfort zone.  We'll see how it goes!

Oh and we got a cat.  His name is Boots and he is flippin' awesome with Elise!

  • Okay, my turn I guess.

My adorable niece turned 1 this weekend. I have no clue how that happened since I'm pretty sure she was born like yesterday. The party was fun though and I decorated a super cute cake for her.

Um, second trimester is like gone. This whole pregancy feels like it has flown by but I'm not complaining because it has really been very easy and uneventful *knocks on woood*. I finally have a little bump but people still tell me I don't look pregnant all the time and it's starting to piss me off. Especially when those same people ask me if I'm eating enough. I am quite healthy thanks but I can't help it if I don't look like I swallowed a beach ball. Trust me I would rather look pregnant than chubby.

I haven't made a decision on daycare yet and it's kinda freaking me out. My little type A, spread sheet making head may explode soon. MT can you please move back here and keep my baby instead of fussy girl? kthnx

The Mr. and I have stayed pretty busy getting the nursery ready. This is the one party I am so on top of. The walls and trim are painted, crib is put together, dresser is refinished, chair is set up, lamp is made, bench is stained, bedding is here, rug is ordered, and closet has been completely redone. Whew! I still need curtains and wall art but it's coming together. I'm looking forward to my showers but those aren't until May.

     That's all I got.

  • Hi Ladies!

Since coming to LA, I have been crazy busy with work, school, and family.   I have enjoyed my semester of school, but am looking forward to Summer so that I don't have to drive to NO.  I will probably be taking some classes at BRCC.

Work is ok.  I got a job at KinderCare.  It's tiring, but it's a job.  Can't complain too much, right? :)

Kiara turned 6 back in February,  She still talks about meeting all you ladies.  :)  School ends for her soon.  With that, she will be leaving for the Summer to spend with her dad in Alabama.  Sucks that I don't get much of the Summer and breaks with her.  But it gives my and the hubby some time together.

As for the hubby, he is working, working, working.  Especially after this government shut-down scare.  So he's been working a lot of nights lately.  With me working during the day and going to school, it's hard to fine time to talk.  I think I will take Shoe's tactic and  see how it works for me.

Well...that's what I have been up to these past couple of months.  When is the next get together?!

    ~Theresa

  • We had Nolan's first birthday party on Saturday. I cannot believe that he is one! We had a crawfish boil, and it was delish! Nolan can take about ten steps at a time, then he plops downs and crawls. He babbles a lot - only a couple of words: mama, dada, and nana (the dog's name is Natchez and he says NaNa when the dog comes around, so I think that's the name for le pooch).  He talks with his hands, like his mom. It is hilarious. I am so ready to have the summer off so that N and I can spend lots of time together. I am in the process of trying to find swimming lessons. D's family got together and got us an Audubon Institute membership for the family. I have every intention of spending many days this summer at the zoo and aquarium.

I am still in school. I am taking two classes this semester, three in the summer, two in the fall, and two next spring and I will have my Master's. It cannot come soon enough. All of my classes are online, so I don't have to go to campus and sit, sit, sit. It's not so bad, I am just tired of paying for books and tuition.

DH has been super busy with Real Estate - it is hoppin in our neck of the woods. Which is a good thing.

My new obsession is gardening - I spph it. I really think I went to school for the wrong thing. I should have gone to something that deals with plants and crap. You know, plants don't talk back. It is my goal for us to have "Garden of the Month" in our neighborhood. I would LOVE that. It will happen.

That's about it here. Same day to day junk! I am liking all of these updates!

  • Hola from the backwoods peoples!

    An update on us:

Ummm.. Where did my baby girl go??? W is so active, jabbering/ talking like a champ. Her latest words that she says clearly are "UhOhhh", "No,No,No" (always 3 syllables, and I totally blame her daddy for this because he over uses No all.the.time.}, Eye, Nose, shoe (sometimes it's pronounced Dooos) and Hi. She cracks us up with her little expressions, eyebrow wrinkles, and blossoming personality. She loves books, reading to her is the only way I can get her to sit still for any time longer than 5 minutes. She loves to be outside, especially with the dogs, and her mood is terrible if she doesn't get to go outside. She is down to one nap a day, but usually sleeps 2.5 hours at a time, so I can't complain. For being as shy as she is around adults she is unfamiliar with, she LOVES other kids. She has no problem staying in the church nursery as long as there are kids in there. She is obsessed with her shoes, our shoes, my heels, hair brushes, and brushing her teeth. We aren't really doing potty training very much, simply because she hasn't shown any interest in it. We do have at least 5 mins of potty time in the morning once she wakes up, but thats it for now.

D started a new job, with awesome benefits, excellent insurance coverage, but it is all the way in Convent. 64 miles on way. He's over the driving, I'm over the waking up at 4 am to have his coffee and lunch ready for when he leaves out. He has been working hard in our garden as well.

As for me, I have been super busy with sessions, and trying to find balance between part-time photographer and SAHM and loving wife. not to mention all the other hats I wear from time to time. I am taking some time in the summer to spend with W, go to my sister's softball games, and work on my marketing. I have the amazing opportunity to go do a mentorship with an amazing photographer in TX in September, and I am totally stoked about it. I plan on specializing in senior portraiture and so I am slowly phasing out of the newborns, family, kid sessions. I plan on picking up a session or two in the down time, but seniors are totally my niche' I believe. I LOVE them. seriously.

Thats about all that has been happening in our world! I sure do miss talking to you gals like we used too!

  • hey, hey!

    new name change, btw.  =)

J & S are a freakin' handful.  These kids are diving off of everything... the couch, the toy box, the recliners, etc.  They have no fear whatsoever.  Talking up a storm, loving on each other (give kisses/hugs), and fighting with each other (hair pulling, stealing toys).  I love every minute of it!

I started an Etsy store a few days ago for vintage baby and kids' clothing - same name as my new name here.  I am finding so much neat stuff, and have tons more to list.  I'm hoping it takes off. =)

Hubs and I took our first real vacation EVER in March... went on a 5 day cruise to Cozumel.  It was ah-mah-zing.  Met a couple from Monroe that was at our assigned dinner table, and hit it off with them - wife a nurse, hubby loves to fish, etc.  Made the trip 100x better.  Hubs is planning a fishing trip with him this summer.

We did have a surprise a week or so before our cruise... I found out I was pregnant. Total shocker.  I was on BCP sporatically, but had taken antibiotics when strep was running rampant at our house.  Was a day late for my period and tested - two lines.  The MD I work for knows how paranoid I am, so she ordered betas that week, which were low to start off with, doubled, then started dropping.  I ended up miscarrying that weekend.

I hate the old cliche' that "things happen for a reason," but I was feeling horrible getting excited about another pregnancy, and at the same time thinking it wouldn't be fair to J & S - they already have to "share" me, so to speak, and a new baby in the mix would cut into that.  But it's getting better, and we're open to having another one a few years down the road.

potty training, eek!  S definitely knows when she goes, she grabs her crotch and says "ooh" after the fact.  J still happily pees unknowingly.  I've ordered pull ups and tried them out one day just for kicks, until S pulled them down around her ankles.  i think we're still a few months off. =)

  • HELLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOO ladies!! I'm so glad we're doing updates. I love, love, love reading everyone's updates.

My computer is back up and running after an unfortunate encounter with a glass of wine. No worries, I was able to save most of the glass :)

I am sitting in my LAST CLASS EVER right now and it feels great! I take my first final in an hour and I could care less. I'm so over this school thing. I still don't have a job and it looks like I'll be going into business with my two study partners. The economy is horrible right now and NO ONE is hiring. No one. At all. It's very, very scary. I expect all of you to call me for any legal needs in October :)

Clotile is HUGE. And she's much better behaved. She'll be 1 in July and I am absolutely loving cuddling with her at night.

I'm doing nothing but studying for the next week, then relaxing until graduation.

  • I'm late to this party, but-

Camille started day care in March, and it's going really well.  She's happy there, and even happier to see me in the evenings.  She's sleeping better than she was before (which was still AWESOME)

I'm not a breastfeeder anymore.  We weaned 2 weeks ago, and my boobs are finally starting to get the message.  I get bummed out about it every so often, but I think it's good too- and my baby is still healthy and happy.  :o)

We had our reviews last week at work, and that came with a raise (Yay!), a bonus (double Yay!).

I'm dieting hard core now that I don't have to 'eat for two', and we go to the beach in June.  I am so flipping excited for the beach!!

DH is still working for the sheriff's office- he's coming up on being there for a year- and still loves it.  Still no word on when he will get to go through their 'academy' but it'll hopefully be some time this summer, or early fall.

  • I completed my first marathon in February with my husband at my side.  It was extremely difficult, but well worth the pain.

I started my first post-graduation job in February at a local child care center.  While I love the job, I hate being at the very bottom when I have the most education there.  It's starting to become very frustrating, but I guess that's work!

I'm trying to learn how to garden even though everything I plant seems to die!  Hopefully this year will be different and I will only kill a percentage of the plants instead of all of them.

I'm trying to teach myself how to sew and recently completed a baby blanket that was quilted (if that makes any sense) and it came out great.  The recipient of the gift could not believe I actually made it.

  • Jenn - Congrats on the last class!  I remember when that ticker went up and now it's almost here!

AW - I saw your message on BOTB about gtg one Sat and I am SO SORRY I didn't get a chance to respond.  I meant to PM you but then life got in the way.  I couldn't have gone anyway but I didn't even know we had an LLL in BR!  I definitely want to get involved with them on our next go round. Congrats on your raise.  =)

Bboe - HUGE congrats on your race!  That's on my bucket list.

  • We've been doing some house stuff --- ripped up the carpet in the 3 bedrooms and replaced with new hardwood, etc., both busy with work, but every moment feels like it's centered around our baby making stuff.  We go tomorrow for our calendar and to order meds, so it's getting verrrrry close.  Keep us in your ts and ps if you don't mind ;)
