Reccomend a point and shoot
I know absolutely nothing about camera's... But I need a new, point and shoot digital camera.
A friend recommended Canon over Nikon, but Amazon reviews seem to say the opposite.
Any recommendations?
TIA!
Re: Reccomend a point and shoot
I don't like Sony because they use a proprietary memory stick. Most of the other companies all use SD memory, and so many devices (computer, iPad connector, etc) all support SD cards now. Plus, it's so easy to find SD cards if you suddenly find you need more space!
FWIW, I'm on my second Canon (by choice - I wanted to upgrade to a newer model with a better optical zoom). When I bought this one, I looked at similar models from Canon, Panasonic, Nikon, Olympus, and Kodak, but I ended up liking the photos from the Canon best for what I would typically use it for. There were some other cases where the Nikon or the Panasonic were better, but I chose based on the kinds of photos I knew I would be taking most often.
When I was shopping, I actually took along my own SD card and had the sales people unlock the camera so that I could put my own card inside. That way I could take a few different sample shots from each camera and store them all on my card to view on my computer at home. There's some variation in the camera displays themselves, so I wanted to see what the photos looked like on the same screen. And it made it easier to do the comparison having the photos right there without having to switch equipment.
This is a great idea! I wish I'd thought of it. :-)
I also have a Canon - both a point and shoot and a DSLR and love them both. I tried many, many, many cameras when I was choosing my point and shoot and overall loved the photo quality, ease of use and compact body of the Canon. I had a Sony in the past and this one his hands-down better, IMO, than the Sony I owned.
