Vacay Recap - longish, with PIP

The cruise was a blast.  We had a great time and my parents are thinking of coming with us to Alaska next summer and MIL and her hubby are also thinking of doing another one.

Stats: We cruised on the Carnival Glory (SIL picked, not me) out of Miami.  It was 7 nights.  Our itinerary was: embark at Miami, at sea, Cozumel, Belize, Roatan, Grand Cayman, at sea, and disembark at Miami.  We did early dinner at 6 and there were 2 "cruise elegant" nights, the rest were "cruise casual."

First I'll do the ports.  We did an excursion in each port.  Cozumel was fun, we did beach buggys and had a blast exploring, it was just the 2 of us on this excursion.  Belize was ok, my snorkel gear was too big and pushed onto my nose.  We ended up with my SIL's brother and his wife and our oldest nephew and his cousin on this one with us.  DH and the others did some shallow snorkeling off the beach once we got in from the reef and saw a white stingray.  Belize had good shopping if you're into knock-offs and cashew wine.  The port is pretty run down, just fyi.

Roatan was gorgeous.  We just went to the new mahogany beach which they built just for the ships and tourists.  Very clean and nice.  We just got chairs and clamshells and spent all day there, with some shopping at the port shops.  Grand Cayman was last and we took our 4 nephews and 1 niece on a snorkel trip to the reef and then seeing the stingrays.  Great snorkeling, we saw angelfish, a huge lobster and a barracuda.  Then we went over to stingray city and got to pet and see a ton of stingrays.  We can't feed them anymore b/c they were being overfed by all the tourists.

Review of Carnival: Overall it was a great vacation, but I don't think we'll be cruising Carnival again, we definitely prefer Princess.  The food was mediocre, both at the buffet and dinner.  There were a lot of logistical problems, where it just felt like someone didn't realize that there were X number of people all on the boat.  For example, the last sea day they did a chocolate buffet at lunch.  What no one tells you is that this then shuts down 2 of the 4 regular buffet lines due to the chocolate (which wasn't good, the choc fountain at our wedding was better than what they had).  So now you have everyone on board with 1/2 the buffet lines.

Also the programming was so-so.  The comedians weren't great and the shows were pretty old school vegas, with dancers in thongs and bad choreography.  Plus being early dinner, you got out at 8 and only a few nights was there anything planned at 830, otherwise nothing started until 10ish or later.  DH and I prefer late dinner, but again, with a group, we went with the flow.

Family isht-same old same old.  Nothing major, but there were numerous times where BIL and SIL just sort of went and did their own thing and left MIL and others just basically standing there figuring out what to do.  No biggie for us though, as we usually did breakfast with my parents and MIL and her hubby and we met at 530 before dinner in the lobby bar for pre-dinner drinks and catch-up from the day.
