A while ago, there was some talk about gardening on this board. Has anyone done any planting so far? What are you growing? Has anyone ever done pot lettuce? I was thinking about trying it but I'm not sure if the yield would be worth the trouble...

Re: Green thumbs?
Resident gardener here!
I have planted some stuff so far. In the ground is lettuces and broccoli. Waiting to be planted after this weekend's cold spell and this weekend's till-fest is peppers (sweet and hot), tomatoes (4 varieties), zucchini, yellow crookneck squash, and melon. I also will put 2 varieties of beans (seeds) in the ground next week when it warms up after the cold spell this weekend.
I also have blackberry and raspberry bushes that are established.
Lettuce is good in a pot because it keeps it away from the rabbits! Make sure it's a deep planter to give roots room to grow. It's a good thing for a notice. The yield isn't that big - because it's a one time thing. Each head you cut, and then it's done. But, for container gardening and just for the experience of doing it and making your own food, it's fun!
