Hoarding!

What do you hoard?

(oh hai, Loki!)

For me, I think it's books.  Borders going out of business and discounting everything hasn't been helping either...

Re: Hoarding!

  • i hoard purses. my boss did this :O when i told him that i have at least 35 (probably closer to 60 if you count clutches, definitely 100+ if you include totes and wallets) that i rotate on a semi-daily basis.

i rotate because i fear they get lonely haha.

    BAHAHAHAHAHA

Um...I use to hoard EVERYTHING. I couldn't get rid of anything.  But moving into my grandparents house and really had to deal with a home for hoarders - I learned how to throw things away. I've been trying to follow a 1 month rule. If it hasn't been used in a month - it won't be missed.

Haha! I love Loki in this picture! So cute!
  • Lip gloss

Mail (I hate throwing away anything that could potentially have personal info on it, yet I never get around to shredding)

    Half-used beauty products

DVD's...we never get rid of the ones we don't watch.

This is us too. I went through a ton during our move. I have access to a shredder at work too. So, I should be able to get my but in gear. haha. We've gotten better since the move.

I would say beauty products. I don't really use some, and have too many bottles of random products. I need to toss them already.

That's how I was before Chris and I started dating... I swear, every movie I had ever seen needed to be purchased on DVD...

  • Mascara.

Old magazines, particularly if they contain recipes.

    Nail Polish.

I'm starting a fabric hoard, but the girls on the Crafts board call it a "stash".

    White Knot
Stand up for something you believe in. White Knot
  • currently yarn. I have some in the guest room, some in our bedroom, some in the sunroom, some in the living room, some in the dining room... seriously. And when I say "some" I mean at least 10 balls/skeins. They're in bags, boxes, baskets, or just in a pile on the floor. Luckily Pansy doesn't care about yarn.

At least hoarding knitting patterns just means a huge folder of pdfs.

Oh and since I found out they've discontinued the Lilly Pulitzer fragrance line and it's all over at TJMaxx and Marshalls, I buy every bottle I see. I currently have 9 bottles in a paper bag in my closet, plus one that I'm actually using. But it's a $38 bottle on sale for $13, so financially it's not horrifying. And they'll make great Christmas gifts!

  • Books and DVDs

Oh my lord we have boxes that have yet to be unpacked that are filled with both. Jon loves to watch movies over and over and I just can't part with books that I have read or want to read, so they are all stored between 3 bookcases and 5 boxes.

  • I think I'm actually the opposite extreme.  I throw everything away.  I clean out my entire closet several times a year, and donate anything that I haven't worn that season (getting reasdy to do it with winter clothes!), same with purses, belts, shoes.  I'm like excessively feng shui and minimalistic.  I try to get Scott to clean his shiit out all the time, because I feel like he hoards such random junk.  I have several rubbermaid boxes of nostalgic keepsakes and such, but otherwise, it gets tossed.

So much so, that Scott's often looking for some kind of manual or whatever and can't find it, he gets mad because I probably threw it away.

  • Definitely mail.  I'm good at going through it and throwing away the junk mail, not so good at actually filing the important documents.

I used to hoard hair products because I love trying new ones but I managed to stop that as one of my money saving techniques!

  • Cleaning items and kitchen gadgets. I've been really good about using what we have up before buying more.  Re: kitchen gadgets, I now do more research on them to make sure they are worth it before I buy them.

  • Nothing in particular really.

Although, this weekend I was cleaning our strorage space and came across about 45 notebooks, all less than half used. I guess we're good to go on paper for quite a while.

While I don't usually throw manuals and stuff like that, I do the same thing: I hate keeping things and love to clean out closets.  Patrick loves to keep stuff which is so annoying.  At the same time, I sometimes get too carried away and end up not keeping clothes I should keep just for the sake of having that particular style.

While I don't hoard mail because I want to keep it, I have a hard time getting into the habit of opening the mail that day, throwing stuff away, and shredding what needs to be shredded.  Ever since we moved our office area from the main floor to the basement, it's such a mess!

I want to take a couple of days off to scrub the house and just throw junk away.

  • I would have to say mail also, H and I just cleaned out some drawers this weekend and had so much mail, most of it junk mail.

I also hoard shoes, I keep them just in case I need them.

I have almost 120 pairs... but it's not really hoarding, since most of them are stored neatly out of sight. Ok maybe it is hoarding Embarrassed

  • My natural inclination is to hoard EVERYTHING, so I force myself to purge every few months.  It's difficult for me to gauge what I should actually keep and toss, though.  It's just always an instant decision as I'm going through.  I always pick out an outfit in my head, go to my closet, and realize I donated a piece of it a few months earlier.  Frustrating! (I did it this weekend when I was getting ready for the GTG, boo!)

In high school I was really bad about books, shoes, lip glosses, and craft supplies.

  • I tend to hoard shoes. I have way more shoes than I thought I did. I also hoard hair ties. I probably have over 500 around this house.
