Ok, there are lots of cavaets--still no retailer shipping (like winedotcom) and the winery you want to buy from has to pay for the $200 license to ship here but it's a step in the right direction.
Re: Wine can ship to MD
It's a total joke IMO, the fact that you can't buy from a retailer makes it an utter waste. There is one wine from LI that we really like- a steel-fermented chardonnay and the winery is super close to my IL's house, but the winery is not the best place to buy the wine, they don't give case discounts, etc. I am completely aggravated by the whole thing.

I think it's better than before, especially with a strong lobby against it. I was actually thinking it would come down to only allowing MD wineries to ship within MD (because the MD wineries are big supporters of the bill) which would have been worthless. At least this way if you go on vacation you can having something you like sent back home.
Like Becky said, better than nothing.

I'm hopeful. There was a comment on the Sun article from a woman who worked at a CA winery who said she expected most CA wineries to pay it because the potential for income and building a bigger customer base was worth it. It's hearsay but it's something.

I hope so! DH and I are planning to go to Napa next spring and I was bummed that we'd have to lug all this wine home-now hopefully we can ship it!
and wine.woot.com~ -
what's super annoying is a lot of times those deals are shipped from the wineries/vineyards... I e-mailed woot.com about it because I would think if the wine is shipped from the vineyard/winery and not from a retailer it should be OK.
Let us know what the response is. I love woot and would love to be able to purchase wine from wine.woot.
The regulations stem from lobbying from liquor store owners. They want you to have to buy it in their stores and want protection for small businesses. I imagine this is also why MD generally doesn't sell alcohol in grocery stores, CVS, etc.
Although Superfresh in OC and Sheetz in Frederick do so I'm sure why there are exceptions...

I think it is a county/city thing. When I went to school in Salisbury beer/wine could be purchased at the grocery store, but liquor had to be purchased from the Wicomico County Liquor Store.
You can buy beer, wine, liquor from the Rite Aid on Taylor Avenue in Annapolis.
Ha, yeah I miss buying beer at Giant. And that county liquor store was so skeevy.
