What's your favorite wine?

I'm throwing a networking mixer next week for 50-65 people, and I'm trying to decide on our wine selection for the event. I'm estimating 2-3 glasses per person (wine will be the only alcoholic beverage available), but now I'm trying to figure out what kind of selection we should have.  I was thinking of sticking with only Cab, Merlot & Chardonnay, but I want to make sure we have something that everyone will like.

So, what is your favorite type of wine?  and what do you usually serve for entertaining?

thanks!

Re: What's your favorite wine?

  • I think one red option would be fine, and I like cab and merlot equally. I feel like pinot grigio might be more appealing to most people than chardonnay. I know I prefer it.

  • Shiraz and Syrah for Reds

    Spatlese and Riesling for Whites

We also have a lot of juice available for the soon-to-be mommies.

  • I like pretty much any red and it depends on the season and occasion but cab, merlot or pinot noir are good crowd pleasers.

I'd pick pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc over chardonnay.

  • I would say Merlot is a good choice for the red but I also really like Malbec and Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio for the white, but it really depends on what food you are serving!
  • I generally prefer a Riesling but I am not too particular. I could also go for the Pinot Grigio. Can't offer an opinion on red, sorry!

  • Cab/Merlot/Chardonnay are standard "house" servings, so you'd be fine with those.

If you want something a bit tastier (IMO) and to potential appeal to a wider range of pallates, I'd got for the Pinots: Noir & Grigio. Plus, they sound fancier.

  • Jacob's Creek is an excellent (and CHEAP!) Moscato.

I like Riesling, Merlot, and Moscato.

  • I am a bit of a wine enthusiast ... correction ... a bit of a cheap wine enthusiast:-) I've found that moscato is usually a crown pleaser. It is a delicious, sweet white wine. I actually really like the Gallo Family Moscato. It's just a bonus that I can get a 1.5 liter bottle for $10 where I am from!

I also enjoy fruity red wines and Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz is one of my favorites. It has a mild peppery and strawberry nose with a long lasting read more...flavor of jammy wild berry fruit..... soooooo good! It is priced about $11 for a 'normal' sized bottle.

    Good luck!

  • Moscato or Riesling! They are both great, more sweet then most not dry at all. Most people who don't even like wine seem to love when I serve it.

    Riesling and Moscato.

This!  DH and I particularly like Barefoot Moscato.

If you have a World Market around you, they have really great wines (and a wide selection).  They also have someone there to help you pick an appropriate wine.  A friend of mine and I went there looking for wine for a specific meal, and we both like completely different wines.  The man working there helped us pick out a wine for dinner that we both ended up loving and we each took a bottle of our favorite kind home too!

  • Another vote for Riesling!  Relax is my favorite and I've had them all, believe me!

  • If you are trying to stick to something on the cheaper side, but still a very good quality wine, try Vola Sangiovese from Trader Joe's.  Only $2/bottle.  My husband is a wine snob, and he LOVES it!!
  • i would stay away from sweet wines. stick with pinot grigio for white and either pinot noir, cabernet, or merlot for reds.
  • I prefer Riesling.
