My husband wants a greenhouse...$$$!!!

My husband is great at growing veggies. We live in MN, so the growing season isn't very long. So, he wants to buy a green house so he can grow veggies all year long. But do you  know how expensive those things are? Not to mention how much it costs to keep one running?! Any suggestions?

Four Season Harvet by Elliot Coleman.  My library had a copy.  A lot of people do a lot with an unheated hoop house.  But your husband probably knows this already.  If his heart is set on a glass greehouse than smart design, scrounging materials, and doing it yourself is your only hope.

I recently received some catalogs for small greenhouse kits with plastic sides that were in the $400 to $500 range.  Still expensive, but not as bad as glass.  I think it was from Grower's Supply.

What about a couple of cold frames?  They are the same idea but mini versions and you can DIY them.

I'd personally try to find plans yo DIY, but I was browing through this website yesterday which may give you a better idea on prices.

If he just wants winter veggies a hoop house might work. You can diy it for cheap.

Otherwise, do you have a porch you can retrofit? That'd help with the building costs and the heating bill.
