When you chose a pediatrician/family practice doctor (OB said I could choose either one), were they affliated with the hospital you delivered/will deliver at?
If they weren't, how did that work? Did they still come to the hospital to check the baby out?
The OB didn't really specify, she just said "it doesn't matter who you pick" and gave me a pamphlet. The Pedi I'm looking at is going at the same office I normally go to, but is not affliated with the hospital I plan to deliver at.

Re: BR: Dr. Question
i know for my niece they just had to take Makenna in to see the pediatrician 48 hours after she was released from the hospital. i guess they block off a certain amount of time for "new babies" because Makenna was born early and unplanned (as are most i assume), so it wasnt like they had a set appointment. they just called when she was born and scheduled it.
i think once you look into doctors they will probably tell you their policy.

My pedi doesnt go to the hospital that I am delivering at.. its really no big deal for me. They have a pedi that will check out the baby while its at the hospital and I call and get an appointment within the first week. Our office has appointments set for new babies this way. We didnt even have to register. Makes it a little less stressful.

My Acme Box last update 3/28/11
it IS a very good hospital. my bff is a pediatric doctor there
but lets hope you wont ever need to go there!
The pedi we chose also isn't affiliated with the hospital where I'm delivering. No big deal. I really liked one of the pedis at my hospital/clinic, but the one we chose had many more amenities at her practice (child's medical records/vaccination history/etc online, on-call doctors to take questions at all hours, not just nurses, etc.) Like Nat, I just let the hospital know who we chose to be our pedi and she can come to the hospital to check the baby out. If she can't make it, one of the pedis on staff at my hospital will have the baby in his/her care until we're discharged.
Also, not to insult family practice doctors (one of my best friends is one) but I felt more comfortable having a pediatrician caring for my baby since they're more specialized.
