Today I have to go with the husband to do our taxes. We never do them this late, but this time around it has been freaking HECTIC.
I was in class yesterday and heard this guy (maybe 20 years old) complaining about the fact that his financial aid was being cut and that he may be "forced" to pay $1500.00 a year towards his tuition and then went into this profane rant about how he'd never pay that much to go to school and that he's planning on leaving for a CUNY.
I wanted to beat.him.senseless.
Why? I dont get ANY financial aid whatsoever, and I pay approximately $12,000.00 out of pocket every semester. Yes, thats $24,000.00 a year that I pay out of my pocket and someone is complaining about $1500?! And I cant even complain because even though I know thats alot (private school, yes) - there are people out there that pay more than me...
What gets me is that other people in class were agreeing with him, said it was the same for them also. And you'd think (or maybe its me that just thinks this) that if they were receiving that much assistance they would be trying their best in school? No. Most are failing classes with a C-, one had "good grades with a C average. I dont understand. Why be in school if you dont give it your all?
It boggles my mind and makes me stabby at the same time. I have a 4.0, and you'd think for something like that there might be some financial incentive for me - like the students on full financial aid get. NADA.
/rant
Im going to go overeat now. LOLOL
Re: Tuition rant..
Don't feel too bad...they are going to have to pay it all back at some point, plus interest!
Seirously, though, when I was a student, $1500 would have been too much for me, too. I got a scholarship to college so I didn't wory about that, but I only got a partial scholarship to law school and tuition for law school is about $40K a year. I had loans to cover all that (which I will be paying back until I'm 56...), and I really could not have afforded to pay a penny out of pocket. Not only did my loans pay for school, they paid for my rent and living expenses too. I was a student, I didn't have a job and certainly no savings at that point. So, I can see their side of it too.
I think Im annoyed because this person in particular has a free ride (for now) to attend school. No loans whatsover. And he's still complaining.
Should I have mentioned that he wears a Gucci schoolbag, and diamonds and accessories that are $$$. LOLOL. I personally dont get how one wouldnt be grateful if all they had to do was pay $1500 a year (and you can make multiple payments!) for an education, but thats just me.
And I hear you on the loans..ugh, its the American way I guess...
