Hi ladies!
I am currently 9 weeks, 3 days pregnant with my first, and had a question about getting the NT scan done here in Phoenix. At my last appointment at 7 weeks, I had all the bloodwork done and my doctor talked about setting up an NT Scan for between 11 and 13 weeks. I forgot to inquire more about scheduling it when I was there, so when I called the office that day to ask about it, I was told that once my bloodwork came back they would contact the perinatologist (sp?) and schedule an appointment for me or something. So now, almost two weeks later and without a follow up as to my bloodwork or scheduling the NT, I called and was just told by the receptionist, (who didn't seem to know at all what she was talking about as she thought they did the NT scan in-office) told me that it would be discussed and scheduled with the nurse practitioner at my "teaching appt" in two weeks when I will be 11 weeks, 3 days.
Sooo, my question is will that be too late to schedule the NT scan appointment? I mean I assume since there are only so many places in the valley that can do an NT scan that appt times would fill up fast? Will they be able to get me in within a week and a half? TIA!
Re: NT Scan Question...
The NT scan must be done within that time frame, so they will fit you in. But I would call back again and maybe schedule it yourself, and you can always change it at your regular appointment. I scheduled mine before my 9 week appointment, and since I was only off by one day on my due date, the receptionist just kept that appointment time as is
And I wouldnt worry....NT scan's are very common, that there isnt a "limited" amount of places that can do them, in fact most OB office can...it's just a blood test and US Good luck!
Thanks Candice!
Maybe the receptionist was right about doing it in-office then...but I was so confused because during my first appointment the OB said that only like 4 places do it in the valley and I'd have to go to 67th and Union Hills or something, and that not a lot of insurance companies cover it but since I have BCBS he said its usually covered. But I feel much better about it now! haha After reading about other people's NT scans on the Bump I was concerned Id get to my 11 week appt and be ridiculed for not having an NT scheduled yet!
I used to go to Desert West but once I moved a year and a half ago to Surprise, I now go to Banner Northwest Valley (part of the Banner Del E. Webb hospital group). I know they do ultrasounds in that office because I was able to have a confirmation/dating ultrasound there, so I'm not sure why my doctor said that there were only so many places in Phoenix to have it done. From what I've been able to research though, I think my doctor wants me to have it done by a perinatologist, and according to this list of ones in the valley, his recommendation would be correct I suppose as far as location...Not sure why I'd have to see a specialist though when it sounds like (according to receptionist) it could be done in-office... But anyways, were you able to just call the actual place where you were having the NT scan, or did you set it up through Desert West? Thanks!
ETA nevermind my last question I just realized you said you now go to a different office that does everything there! Whoops!
The offices that outsource, often times don't have the techs on hand or the higher resolution u/s machines.....Desert West had the machines in the exam rooms, but my doc just used it to check the heartbeat and to see DS bouncing around in there, but you can tell how horribly grainy it was. I can see why they sent me out of the office.
I am wondering if your OB might have had another test in mind? hmm....keep me posted, I am curious! Either way, they will fit you in and your going to a nice office LOL
What dr do you go to? I do to Premier Care for Women in Surprise, or Dr. Newman and they did my NT in house. With that said they set that appointment up at my first appointment with the dr. Mine was at 13w4d but baby L was measuring 14w3d so they couldn't do the NT scan part of it. I hoenstly wouldn't wait to long to set it in case your baby is like mine and measuring bigger.
ETA: sorry I thought of something else after reading the rest of the post. The nurse at my office said not all insurance companies will not let you do the "big" ultrasounds "in house" so i checked if my insuance was one of them and it wasn't so I am able to just do them at the dr office but maybe that is why they said you would ahve to go to another place...
