I just found out we're pregnant!
I am thinking of going the midwife route, and have options of delivering at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua or Catholic Medical Center in Manchester...
Anyone have any rants or raves?
Re: Delivery: SNHMC or CMC?
Congratulations!!!
I didn't use a midwife, but delivered at SNHMC. My raves are more for my doctor, as I honestly never left my room. As for the room- it was great- wifi, enough space, nothing luxurious though- no kitchenette in the room or anything like that (they're remodeling, not sure when the new wing opens). I had a great stay there with no complaints and plan to go back if we have others. I think the midwife you choose will make all the difference- you see that person for the next 9 months! Good luck choosing!
New wing is sched to open I think in Jan at SNHMC.
Where do you live?? Where you give birth mostly has to do with the practice you have chosen, most docs have one hospital they are affiliated with. A few have rights to mult hospitals, but OBs and midwives usually stay within a hospital, sometimes a city, they need to be accessible to their patients and be a stones throw away.
You can also use a midwife at pretty much any other hospital, again depends on the practice you choose. Elliot also has midwives, as I am sure St Josephs does as well.
Choose your practice wisely;)
Congrats first off!! I delivered at CMC and will not go anywhere else, even if I move out of Merrimack. We loved it that much. Like Victoria we never left our suite. Everything that we needed was there dvd/vcr tv, kitchenette, jacuzzi tub and a trundle bed that slees 2 people.
The jacuzzi tub was great for when i first got there to help out make my contrations feel a bit less intense. The 2 bed trundle was great since my mom and husband were there the entire time. Also at CMC you and one other person (usually spouse) get 3 meals a day. My DH loved this. He got the steak tips for 3 nights! lol While my mom and I always got breakfast together.
The staff were all so wonderful and attentive. I go to Bedfords Woman Care so i have 6 female doctors and was so glad that I got the one i did, although i like them all. She was wonderful and calming during the whole process and the nurses were attentive, knowledgable, personalbe and caring to me and Connor. They made me feel as if I reallly was the only patient there.
Both places seem great so good luck in your choice and H&H 9 months!
Congrats!
Just something to think about . . . if you deliver at a Catholic hospital, they adhere to Catholic doctrine.
I never even thought about this till my friend delivered twins at 24 weeks. She knew they had a slim chance of survival, & she did not want them recusitated (sorry, I don't know how to spell it) if there was no way they could survive.
She was scheduled to deliver at a catholic hospital, but when she went into labor her doctor admitted her elsewhere, knowing her wishes & that a catholic hospital would have done anything to preserve their lives.
Just something (not so happy) to think about . . .if you feel strongly one way or the other.
