Moms of boys - question

Ok, So one of my boys I'm going to bring to the doctor today, but was curious if any of you have experienced this. Sorry if this is TMI.

Well, DH and I have always felt that Zach's circumcision wasn't down far enough.  Well Sunday we noticed, while changing is diaper that part of his penis was all read and irritated. (the part where if you pull down some of the foreskin. We do this every diaper change to clean it really well).  Yesterday when I got home from work was changing him and realized it got worse and is really red. It has now spread up on to the tip of his penis a little.  It is really uncomfortable for him. "He cries when we change his diaper and go to wipe. (my poor baby, it breaks my heart).

Anyway, just wondering if any of you have had this happen and what was the resul? Thanks ladies.

Re: Moms of boys - question

  • Yes, both boys have had something like that and the doc said to use lotrimin and a diaper cream with zinc oxide... I also would put them in disposables and do a good soak and cleaning of the diapers to make sure that nothing that built up in them was causing it.

With the lotrimin and diaper cream it usually went away in a couple of days.

  • Oh and doc also said not to use wipes, to just use washclothes with a little soap and water, I got a little spray bottle and would mix up some water and soap..

lol this was also the point where I convinced DH it was time to just switch to cloth wipes because we were already using the cloth diapers and it is so much easier to just use cloth wipes too!

  • Thank you!  We don't cloth diaper as it is, but I will for sure start using the washclothes for wiping.

  • I'm thinking it might be a yeast rash which is what I think Kristin is mentioning.  We got a prescription cream which I've forgotten the name of, but it's a little tube and the cream is pale yellow.

That is what DH and I are thinking as well.  I just called and am bringing him in for 9:30.

  • Thanks for all the info ladies.  Basically there is no infection, and the redness is from some of the skin seperating.  Apparantly this happens over time, but for my poor guy, it happened at once.  The Dr. explained it as if he was almost circumsised again.  So he should be healed by early next week.  In the meantime, lots of neosporin and baking soda baths.
